I have an infestation of what appear to be fungus gnats, although i haven't found any of the larvae in the soil. anyone know how to eradicate these little f**kers? I'm going to put out some yellow sticky cards, since its a small enclosed area, but i'd like to know how to completely get rid of them. Also, whats a good fertilizer for general plant health, just to get in all the important macros and micros?
I got these too... only like one or two. IDK if they would harm anything too much but when I see them I kill them. There is a sticky around here that talks about using h202 and putting a layer of sand on top so they can't bury their larva. I just kill them with my hand XD
Take used cig butts and push a few holes in your dirt by the root ball and stuff the used filter in them every time you water some nicotine will be released and bugs don't live well in that shit. I once took an ashtray that was full of water and fed it too a few plants that had gnats. It killed those bitches and slowed the growth of the plant a bit so I think that was way to strong. So do the butt thing you can use as many as it takes.
Also if you have one or two you have much more coming. The gnats don't hurt anything but their larve gets into the stalk and eats from the inside out. This usually doesn't hurt bigger plants but if you find your young plants growth stunted then that may be the cause. And they can kill the plants
Bro u r getting a load of bad information here. dont ever put any type of nicotine around mj plants! and fungus gnats dont eat from the stem out that is crazy! i'm not even going to go in to the rest. I have had fungus gnats onn and off for a couple of years, the simplest way to "control" them its very hard to eliminate every single one is go to hydro store get some gonats or gnatrol or azamax. I prefer gonats it goes much farther than azamax. mix it in with watering solution or reservoir and water. don't waist time spraying it on the eat that shit for breaKFAST!!! tHE YELLOW STRIPS i USe just to tell how many I have in the room. they wont even touch the problem of eradication. In a about a week ur yellow strips will quit catching them and u will be good. Fungus gnats burrow in the soil and the larvae eats away at ur roots. They will totally fuck up a plant! Trust me I know. They ruined 2 widow mothers of mine that were 7 foot tall they never recovered leaves would brown and yellow at this stage ur pretty much screwed. Anyway good luck man!!!!!
dont use any cigarette refuse in your grow, its toxic! sticky traps and put 1" of building sand on the top of the soil. all the larvae will die in about a week.
