Hey everyone! I've been apart of the GC community (well lurker) for years ( "BUT BRO YOUR ACCOUNT SAYS YOU'VE BEEN AROUND FOR A FEW MONTHS!" I cycle through multiple accounts because, well just because.) Ok so anyways some background about myself. I'm a hobbyist and personal grower. I smoke a fuck ton (I got glaucoma jk) I've only used Fox Farms original soil in my last 2 grows. This will be the first hydroponic system I've built and used. Ok so far this is what I have for the plants 1 Strain: Afghani Bullrider 12 plants total (6 rockwool babies and 6 jiffy pot babies) 1 (the largest) is from my last experimental crop working with rock wool (The rest died because I had no idea wtf I was doing) 5 rock wools (in the clear tub) just got pulled out of the germination box along with 6 other seeds. Now I have planted 2 seeds in the happy frog soil and 2 seeds in the Ocean Forest soil and 1 seed with a .5+.5 combo of both of those soils (Note: This is the first time I've ever used either of these soils, I've heard great things about both so we will see how well they hold up) now the 6th seed did not crack during germination but I threw it in a jiffy pot full of HF anyways to see how it fares. Grow Room Stats: 55 gallon reservoir 19" tall from the bottom to the top (inside) 6" net pots (4 1/4" depth from them being placed in the lid) 120 GPH water pump for the top feed system (and will have an additional pump to drain) 100 gallon tetra whisper air pump So i've read seedlings do not need a top feed system until they're older I'll have a 3/4" fill hole drilled in as well with an elevation meter installed. Grow Room set up: 60x60x80 Apollo grow tent Amare SE450 cob LED's Carbon filter system by Apollo (the 17lb one) T5's 57k 4x2' 8 bulb Ok So we got that wall of text out of the way. It is 4/25/16 for me right now in the evening. humidity currently 44% (ac and a fan is running) Temp is 79*F Everything seems ok I just soaked the jiffy pots with 5.5PH water and they're all on a 18/6 light cycle. I will be doing frequent updates. Advice/ Opinions/ Criticism Is welcomed and appreciated. Note: I do not plan on putting the rockwool cubes in their 55 gallon system until my Amares come in (Probably/ hopefully next week) Because I don't want to move 55 gallons of water to the new location lol! As for the oldest ABR seedling. I'll be putting it in it's very only 5 gallon bubble bucket Thanks for stopping by!
Ocean forest is pretty hot for seedlings. I think the best way to go about it is to fill all the pots youre going to veg with with HF and OF for your flowering pot. Happy frog has the mychorizae [ill never know how to spell it] that plants' roots love. Its great for vegetative growth and i know people get away with potting up so they dont have to use nutes during veg. As for Ocean forest its hotter and will usually get you about 1 month of flowering nutes. Good luck
I remember reading something about that So with OF do I have to make a tea of some sorts at the time of transplant or what?
I am not using a wick system The plant has quite yet rooted through the cube yet so I'm just hand watering
Teas are always good but not a nececcesity just watch out with feeding. You can easily over do it since the sooil is filled with nutes. Fox farms soil will do a lot of the work for you
Yeah no problem. Are you planning on adding perlite to the mix? & aha. Being one of the youngsters on here, theyre basically the cheech and chong of my generation. Nothing beats drunk ass lahey & shirtless randy. My favorite part of every season is when rickys talking to cops. "You just give them some hullshit story cause cops are fuckin dumb"
lmao yea I'm always like... where the fuck is his shirt?!?! Too bad Reno 911 isn't on net flix :\ And Yea when I transplant them into 3 gallon pots I'll do a 1/3 perlite 2/3 soil mixture
Greasy cheeseburger walrus! Man i forgot about that show. I remeber when reno 911 an madtv were the shit
Update: 4/26 (we had some bad storms so I couldn't update) I've only had 1 seed in a rockwool cube so far sprout leaves (on the 1st day after germing) It's already 2" tall trying to grow it's 2nd pair of leaves. Legit I've never had a sprout grow this fast. The other seeds are still buried under the dirt. I checked the unmarked jiffy pot to see if the white tails came out of the seed(s) that didn't crack. 1 tail did so looks like we're gona have a lot of plants LOL!
Update: Just transferred the survivor from my last experimental crop. She's 3 weeks old, currently in 4 gallons of flora 3 part system The mild veg formula She looks hella weak, but then again she's been in a shitty net pot being hand fed for 3 weeks under these awful T5's. (Cmon Amares where the hell are my new lights) She's got a 100 gallon bubbler massaging the bottom of her net pot right now. So fingers crossed she'll pull through. The seedlings are doing fantastic. Especially that 1 sprout. Day 3 and the girl is already almost 2" tall. Witchcraft yo. Average temperature is 75F at 46% humidity. Ph for the seedlings is 5.5 And for the bubble bucket is 6.1
Udate: Came home today to 1) my carbon airfilter kit by apollo 2) my fan and airpump was unplugged yikes! The air temp rose to around 89F, I setted up the CAF system without the filter just so I can circulate more air. The temp rn is 77F and it seems to be doing better a lil yellow on the leaves and a bit droopy (heat I guess) The seedlings however are still kicking ass. Especially the one ine OF+HF combo pot. That little bastard is taking off I don't have access to clay pellets unless I drive 100 miles to get them. So I went to home depot and bought lava rocks. I just spent an hour in my yard washing all the red dirt from them until my water ran clear. They're in the over at 450 degrees baking for 30 mins (just to be safe) They'll be the new grow medium for my hydro system.
all but one of my soil seedlings sprouted. It's alive and has a tail but the Lil girl can't find her way to the top yet. I'm running out of room still running on 4 t5 bulbs, if I turn on all 8 the temp spikes from 77 to 85 easy even with my Apollo fan. I moved all the rockwool sprouts into their lava rock and net pots. I put them in a ph 5.5 bubble bath about an 1.5" deep I won't add nutes until about 10 days in. Btw what is your opinions on this plant? It's been through a lot but I see new leaves sprouting. It's in the 2nd florabloom stage formula (4 gallons)
I have a q I have blackjacks and I can't find any growing info on them in ur opinion what ph level should I use I'm using 6.2 6.3 ph and one seedling day 8 is looking sad I think my ph levels are wrong but would like to know what u think I'm a newb Sent from my SM-G530T using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Did a quick G search Black Jack Auto (by Sweet Seeds) :: SeedFinder :: Strain Info But I ALWAYS have a Low PH around 5.5 and slowly adjust it in the future But it could be a whole lot of different factors that are effecting your plant. I suggest post a pic with all your stats in the Sick Plants and Problems category I wish I could help you, but I am no cultivation guru :c Side Q: How wet should my rockwool cubes be? Since they've been in the bubblebath they've been quite moist. I do not want to get root rot
Was gonna update with a pic but my iPad for some reason won't take a quick pic like my phone does. So summer is here with my air temps averaging 82 degrees in the afternoon when my lights are on but the air temp drops to as low as 64 degrees at a 67% humidity rate in the early mornings when the lights are off. The plants are looking incredibly well averaging around 4" in height at 13 days old. The rock wool plants are looking really nice and I'm going to give them their first gallon of nutes from the flora series. As for the soil plants Everyone of them is looking good except for 1 Ocean forest seedling, it seems like it went into shock idk if it's because the OF soil was too hot or could be subject to another factor. It's about half the size of the happy frog soil plants. These are all the same afghani bull rider strain.
5/9/16 Hydro: I've transferred all my rockwool plants to my 55 gallon DWC system Ph: 6.1 Temp:73 (Im looking to buy a chiller right now to keep my temp around 69) Ppm: 930 All of my plants are finally under my Amare 450 LED'S and they are loving it. I've seen a 1" growth in a day I'm just so impressed by the difference between the T5's and the LED'S. All my soil plants have been transferred into 3 gallon pots. 75% happy frog, 25% vigro perlite.
5/11 So I found out chillers are fucking expensive. 500 dollars for a chiller drop my res temp down by 5 degrees? god damn. Anyways I just purchased some hydroguard off amazon so hopefully that will prevent root rot. all my roots look good but i'm still getting that aquarium smell (which is making me paranoid) atm the room stats are 75F air temp 73 res temp 920 ppms 6.5 ph (why is my PH slowly climbing? like .2 PH a day)
