Ok, this is going to be long because for you to understand why I'm pissed, I have to explain things about my job. So bear with me! There will be a tl;dr at the end for you lazy stoners. I'm a service vendor for a large home improvement chain. One of the stores is "mine" and I work there every day. My job involves setting up and maintaining displays, putting up signage (POP), keeping the shelves straight and stocked and set to planogram (POG). Basically the background shit to keep the store looking nice and updated so the store associates can just help customers and sell special order shit. I get to tell customers I can't help them Anyway, for the past couple of months the stores in the area have been getting resets done. That means an overnight team comes in and spends a week in each store putting in new stuff in certain areas and getting rid of the old shit. Basically a mini-facelift for a lot of stuff in the store. Still with me? Ok, on to why I'm pissed. The store right near my house was/is getting done this week and I was asked if I could work overnight since the reset team was short some people. I said yes, why not? They needed the help and I only live 2 minutes away. During the day my DM (district manager) and the in-store rep were supposed to do day prep for us, which involved making price tags, banding up all the loose ceramic tile (so it could be moved more easily), switching the tub/shower faucet displays onto their new display pods, pulling all the clearanced product out for the buyback, and pull down all the area rug displays. (A buyback is where shit goes on clearance and the manufacturer buys it back from the store in exchange for new product/SKUs.) Those motherfuckers didn't do a quarter of the shit they were supposed to do for us! They didn't finish all the price tags, they didn't switch out the faucet pods, and they didn't pull out any of the buybacks. I just spent 32 some odd hours in the past three nights doing this reset shit and probably a third of that was work that should have been done by the day prep people (one of them being my direct supervisor). I AM SO FUCKING PISSED OFF AT THOSE ASSHOLES. Not only did they not do what they were supposed to, but they tried to take credit FOR OUR FUCKING WORK! I'm fucking spitting mad and I couldn't care if I ever saw my boss again. I might punch him. When the resets came to my store two weeks ago, we had all this shit done for the reset team. I don't know what the fucking problem was. My mom (who is a DM, but not my DM) went online to check their work (we document our work with pictures on our PDAs and DMs can view it online). The motherfuckers were doing special projects for the past two days! Now special projects are things we have a set of each month and it changes. Usually it involves doing mini-resets (on a much smaller scale than what was going on this week), fixing mislabelled signs, or small bay surveys. But special projects for August just started this past Monday and we have a whole month to have them done 100%. So there was no reason they needed to be done this week. They should have been doing day prep. AAARRRGGHHHH!!! I could pull my fucking hair out I'm so pissed. Did any of that make sense? Or was there too much job lingo? tl;dr version. Some co-workers (including my district manager) didn't do the work they were supposed to do and I got fucked over on shit that I did as a favor for my district manager. The son of a bitch.
wow im sorry about all that. shit sux, ive had a half a similar experience. i was thrown into the postion of big boss once when my supervisor and big boss decided they wanted vacation at the same time. (theyre related) no training for big boss status at all, all i know how to do is the main supervisor warehouse stuff, im like a backup supervisor. anyway, i fucked up because of the lack of training, and then i got in a mess of shit from the owner of the entire company because of it. bottom line co-workers can fuck you over...specially if they're your boss...
Your job sounds like it sucks. I've found this pretty much wherever I have gone. Supervisors are always incompetent and always willing to sell you down the river without a moments consideration if it means that they get a pat on the head. Human nature at its finest. People will always be stupid, people will always be suck ups and brown nosers.... and most importantly..... work will always suck.
You know what though, Foop? Most of the time I like my job. It's not the worst I've ever had and it's the best pay I've ever had. I also get a PDA that I can use for anything I want when I'm off the clock. I get to show up basically whatever time I want in the morning. I just have to stay for 8.5 hours. If I stay late anytime Mon-Thur I can leave early on Friday. I get weekends off and I'm getting a week of paid vacation next month when I hit my year anniversary. I also only have to see any kind of supervisor once a week. Some days I'm "all by myself", in that there are none of my co-workers there. (Still plenty of store associates and customers, so I'm never really alone.) I have pretty good job security, not only because people are always building houses and fixing the ones they already have, but because my mom is sort of one of my bosses and she's a very well-liked employee. I'd have to seriously fuck up bad to get fired. (And I've lost 45lbs in the past year from all the walking and heavy lifting. ) I guess the reason I'm taking this so personally is because I normally really like my boss. He's a cool guy and he smokes weed. He's never smoked with me, but I always got the impression that the reason for that was because his girlfriend was the jealous type. I just can't believe he'd do this to me. He asked me to do this as a favor to him and then he fucked me over and made his favor twice as hard, not only for me, but for the rest of the reset team.
I never could work for other people. Before we started our own business the longest i held a job was 2 yrs i think. Could never put up with the bullshit.
I think you have a right to be pissed with the slackers. In such situations one must remember the immortal advice of Richard Marcinko, which I was reminded of due to the thread title, which is: You have to fuck with the fucking fuckers before the fucking fuckers can fuck with you. Hmm... I guess that advice does not fit exactly in this situation, but it is something to keep in mind! Sucks to hear you work for idiots, but then again, that has always been my experience in the working world.
Hempress, shitty to hear, but this happens EVERYWHERE, in every way possible. I know exactly what you are talking about. DM's do it to managers and Ive even seen site owners taking DM credit, which prolly wasnt theirs anyway... but... haha. Im pretty stoned so i cant get my words across too well, but like i said, i DEF. know what you mean and p.s.- the title of this thread is amazing.
Im sorry Hempy, sadly as you already know, this kind of "do me a favor but let me take the credit for it" bullshit is common. Next time tell him forget it.Then see how he likes it.
