Fromunda Rides Again

  1. What’s up blades? I just wrapped up my perpetual grow that had been going on for just over three years. Have been doing a bunch of testing with a bunch of new (to me) strains and have run about 100 plants from seed. The upside has been having tons of different strains in the personal stash. The downside has been that a number of them have been just OK for one reason or another.

decided to take a break from the perpetual pheno hunt, tear everything down to sterilize it, and run some of the winners that I have turned up over the last couple years.

My flowering space is 48” x 30” footprint in a homemade cabinet. I feed GH 3 part for now, but may switch that up. I am running these girls in 5 gallon bags of coco with 30% perlite. I am currently lighting with an SF-2000 and an hlg225 (the one with the spiky-hair looking heat sink). 6” 450 CFM fan with a 6“ x 24“ phresh filter. Stays about 76°. Right now daytime is about 50% Rh, nighttime is about 60%.

I am going to run 3 girls this time around. I am going through a cycle of freshening up my moms and cutting new clones so I figured I would just run these. They look gangly AF, but they were just up-potted yesterday (today for the fruity pebbles) and are already getting settled. Training them out to put them under a screen. They will be gorgeous in a couple weeks.

The first lady is a north thunderfuck from rqs. I have flowered her several times and have kept her in clone form for a while. Really nice balanced hybrid that will be done in a little over 8 weeks and really knock you out at about 9 1/2. Very punchy. The cured buds also have a super dank citrus funk that is delightful. Here is a picture of her after getting trained. 193FE643-5474-4355-9A8C-7F2A1475A3AA.jpeg

The second is an amnesia lemon pie. She is also excellent. Cured buds taste like limoncello in bong rip form. Sativa leaning hybrid. Really strong head high. I like it for daytime use, but it is too strong for my wife if she still has shit to do. Here is a before pic of her (because I remembered to take one). 050824C3-C572-4026-B0C1-FA5CAA65747A.jpeg

Third girl going in this rotation is a fruity pebbles. It was a seed gifted to me from a buddy in Las Vegas and is of origins unknown. I thought I had the breeder located because I want some more seeds (only got two and one didn’t pop), but my friend and I got some bad info. Don’t really give any fucks where she came from, she is a hero. She stretches out a bit, but will put on big golf ball nuggets that smell like juicy fruit. Very heavy hitting indica stone. Had to wait for some new coco to get her repotted so she just went in and got trained today. 27FDB75D-D6CE-48D1-BEC2-F5DFEA0DE5C2.jpeg

These ladies got all stretchy in the veg cabinet. Should work well for a screen now that they are good and flat.

Please feel free to follow along. Respectful comments and questions and filthy jokes of any sort are always welcome. Cheers.

  3. Happy Sunday all. Had to run out of town for the weekend, but will be back at it this week getting these ladies shaped up, cutting clones from these gangly branches and getting my first net in. That will start the fill-out in earnest. also finalizing my watering solution for this run since hand watering is a bit of a pain in the ass it will only get worse once scrog begins.

Everyone has bounced back from being repotted and slammed flat before the weekend. The existing fan leaves on these girls are banged up, but the new shoots are doing exactly what I want them to.

  4. So I was able to get my first screen built and installed this week. Will be using a second once this one fills in and I let them get a little height before I flip them. Girls are flushing new growth everywhere. Will need to seriously trim down the number of tops before they dance. E24483AB-1750-4853-8FE5-1FA36A9E515F.jpeg

    Thanks for checking in. Cheers

  5. So while we wait, I was digging through some old pics and turned up some bud shots of the last time I ran each of these ladies.

still have about an eighth each of the ALP and FP. Wake and baking some ALP atm. Such great daytime head pot. Bummed that I have to wait a few months for more, but stoked that more is on the way! Cheers.

  6. Glad to see you doing the journal again! Would you be willing to share any details behind why no more perpetual?

Crap man, your last journal is what pushed me over the edge to go perpetual! Seemed like you had a real solid grip on how to manage some of the crazy that comes with it.
My veg closet used to have a mini-mom or two and 2 or 3 plants vegging. Now look at this mess! Its your fault!

    2021-09-23 08.37.13.jpg

Now if I can just find a way to blame you for that frying/dying stretchy Sweeties clone in the front.
    But seriously, looks fantastic!

  7. Thanks for checking out the new journal man. I will definitely run the perpetual again soon and loved the hell out of it. In the meantime, happy to offer any useful advice I can.

The primary reasons I decided to do a few end-to-end runs are because it’s a little less work and I am super busy right now. I really like it for testing new strains tho. I also had some broad mites hit my perpetual. It had been running for a few years and it was a good time to tear everything down, sterilize everything and do some aggressive pest control while no flowering girls. The other main reason was I have a few strains that I really really like and would like to stack some jars of them before I get back to looking for new ones.

Assuming this run gives me what I’m looking for yield-wise, I will likely run one or two more this way before switching back over to perpetual flowering and doing some more testing. Still have a shit load of seeds to work with. This all assumes I don’t put together my 3 x 3 tent and start up a perpetual next to this grow…which is quite possible. Def do the perpetual though. If I had more space I would always be flowering. Cheers

  8. Happy Monday blades. As per usual this time of year, was gone for the weekend. Girls are starting to pick up a head of steam. They are finally getting enough root mass to keep up with their increased nutrient uptake from their new digs. My veg lighting pales in comparison to my flower cab. The first week or so, they sucked about every bit of available phosphorus out of the existing leaves. Pretty well everything green at this point is new growth. had some time today to do some training and actually shoot some before and after pictures. Clearly, the weed I am smoking is not good enough. LOL

At this point, mostly just getting the basic branch structure set and cleaning up a ton of sucker shoots that blew out after she got spread open.

Expect to start seeing roots pushing through the bags any day now. Just planning to continue to train out branches and chop off anything I need to until their roots fill the bag and they are cooking hard before I flip them. Screen should be good and filled with quality tops by then. Shouldn’t take them too long the way they are picking up speed the last couple days. Thanks for checking out the garden. Cheers

  9. Incidentally, this journal is dedicated to all new growers that worry that they are going to screw up their plants because of some mistake they made in veg. Once these ladies are ready to flower, they will bear virtually no resemblance to their gangly former selves. As long as they are alive, they can be made to do beautiful things. Cheers

  10. Good evening blades. The combination of pruning hundreds of sucker shoots and getting these girls settled into bigger containers has made them quite happy. They are growing faster every day. Won’t be long before they get flipped. They are getting there faster than I expected.

The ALP and thunderfuck or still showing some mild phosphorus signs. Checked their runoff today and it is a touch hi. Used a different batch of coco for them and think it was a little less rinsed than I would prefer. Still a bit of visible staining in their runoff. Going to give those 2 a good rinse and see if it doesn’t shake them out of the last of their funk.

Otherwise, everyone is looking great and growing fast enough that I am going to have to prune every couple days until I flip them. ALP is left. Thunderfuck middle. Fruity pebbles right. 6919E9C7-5F77-43AF-84D5-0EE05ECAF53A.jpeg C8779D70-2A86-4456-AFE1-4224DC6C306E.jpeg

Thanks for checking out the garden. Cheers.

  11. Happy Monday all. Girls are blowing up and screen is getting thick. Will be throwing the switch to 12-12 soon. The ALP, being the finicky little shit that she is, popped a few deficient leaves from either calcium or a little high pH or both. Started showing signs Friday, made adjustments Saturday morning, growing like fire since. I got a bit lazy and hadn’t Ph’d my feeds in a while…She was happy to let me know it was running a little high. Other than those little hiccups, these girls are getting with it.

  12. Good morning people of the universe. Got up early this morning to do some work on the screen. This will be their last major pruning. Getting them into their final shape and selecting the branches that will get flowered. Should be flipping them in 7-10 days max.

Here is the before (after some light tucking yesterday morning) F251A39A-533A-4E40-A91F-BF1B7915313C.jpeg

Cut some clones (have a dear friend starting a legal commercial grow and wants these ladies for breeding/flower stock)

These girls have a big enough root mass now that they should refill the few gaps in the screen within days. One more last cleanup of suckers and positioning the branches, then the flip. This is going to end up being more of a trellised grow than a true scrog. No real place to keep tucking for the stretch. Plan to take the first few sucker shoots right above the screen when they start stretching and shoot for a nice cola in each square of my net. The Thunderfuck and the alp both like to side branch. Might get interesting, but I’m up for it. Fuck larf anyway.

thanks for stopping by. Should be getting more interesting soon. Cheers

  13. Nice looking plants! I also run a perpetual grow. It is a lot of work and timing everything can be a real pain, but it is nice to be chopping a few plants every cpl weeks

  14. No doubt. I had my perpetual running for a few years and I am already missing it after only a few weeks. don’t miss the workload, but I never minded that too much. I do like trimming one or two plants at a time though. My life and schedule do not lend themselves to trimming out over a pound at a time. I have a 3 x 3 and some decent lights laying around collecting dust. I may a fire back up the perpetual on the side just to scratch the itch. Cheers

  15. haha I'm the exact same way. I can't spend days just trimming. I think I would be bored with growing if I wasn't running perpetually. I like to always have plants in full bud lol.

  16. Sounds like a nice recipe for a little Auto Perpetual!

  17. That may well be the ticket. I’ve got a pretty fat stash of Mephisto and fastbuds beans that need to be popped. I’ve also got a purple marmalade photo and a citradelic sunset photo in veg that are both great smoke. I have pretty much decided I am going to start a perpetual back up on the side, just haven’t decided whether it will be photos or autos. Thanks for the suggestion

  18. Happy Friday blades! Imma bout to put these girls on short hours. Either later today or tomorrow. Made a final round of cleanup/lollipopping and removal of branches that were close but not quite where I needed them to get to stay at the party. Each space in the net is now occupied by a branch I would be happy to flower.

    Before cleanup…

shit, I don’t understand how I can cut so much off of these girls every couple days and never be able to tell within 24 hours…

  19. Today is day zero of 12-12. Can’t wait to party with these ladies. Here’s hoping for an uneventful flower (at least the unpleasant events). Cheers

  20. Day one of 12-12. These three are growing like crazy and eating like crazy. Veg nutes went in at 700 ppm yesterday afternoon, runoff was 600+/- on each when I fed this morning. Until the stretch (at least), I pluck all shoots except the terminal one on each branch. Keeps the vegetative growth and stretch focused on the mains. Every branch had two new sets of offset shoots big enough to pinch today after doing it yesterday. Optimistic these girls are going to fill a few jars for me. Anxious for them to start stretching their legs. 230FA9D2-4F15-46D9-91FB-C21F6FCCA873.jpeg DA4A1522-1035-4B3F-ACA1-EFB813211E1F.jpeg E82BCC6C-B2D2-44C1-99E3-6D2A41EBF8E2.jpeg
