Fridge Sitting In Garage. Making it a G Box.

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Jcs9MM, Feb 22, 2010.

  1. I have a refrigerator sitting in my Garage, Its running but we dont use it for anything. I want to convert it into a grow box.

Any suggestions or ideas before i just go at it?

I need ideas on lights, vent, grow method. Anything suggestions really. Gives me more options.

I've grown before in a rubbermaid but would like to step it up a bit. Im not in a hurry to get this thing up and running either. Its going to be an investment and something I will use in the future down the road. Also I wont be able to grow for a few months. So I do have time to buy things as I need. Keeping the stealth aspect is important.

I do not know about HID's, i know of them, but nothing about them. Besides the names metal halid and HPS and what each stage they are used for.

I'd like to grow in soil. (FFOF) w/ FF Nutes

I will be ordering seeds. ( 1 successful order)

I wanna be pumpin out a decent amount of bud.

Im not asking for much, just any suggestions on how to get the best out of the fridge.

I figured if im gonna do this again, dont bullshit do it right get the right shit for nice dense buds in nice quantity.

I can go take pics of it if asked, dont know the demensions of it. I'd have to gut it I'm assuming. But its a regular sized fridge.

    THANKS!!:D

  2. Yeah, I did this at my last house and it turned out really well. I ran a 400w HPS "cool tube" style light to really move the hot air out quick. Fridges are great in that they're already white on the inside and light sealed but you really have to keep it well ventilated since they are sealed up so well. I originally wanted to keep the freezer/fridge sections separate for veg/flower but with the size of light I ended up with the larger space suited me better. I spent several hours and busted knuckles disassembling the compressor, internals, and fan mechanisms etc. I mounted my ballast in the tray where the fridge's compressor was originally mounted and I had several of my intake holes near it to give it some airflow. It took some planning and some imagination, but overall it was well worth building. I ended up having to trash mine due to a move, but I still have everything else and I plan on doing it again at a later residence. Good luck
