Freaked out japanese exchange student

Discussion in 'General' started by HERBAVOR420, Apr 9, 2013.

  1. A japanese exchange student moved in to my room 2 days ago. My friend walked into the room yesterday and started showing me some dank herbs and this japanese kid starts asking what it is and we tell him its marijuana. He literally acted as though we have hard drugs in the room. He tried to tell us that marijuana is bad, though he knows very little english so basically there was a lot of confusion and he just left the room looking super sketched out. He hasn't said anything since it has happened either. Should we slowly expose him to marijuana until it gets to the point where he is ok with dro in the room? Because I smoke a lot and he will be exposed to it. At the moment we smoke outside to respect the guys space since he was so uncomfortable about a nug in the room.

  2. Don't be a dick, smoke outside.

And they say Asian people are "Soooo smart!"

Tell him to read a book sometime, let him figure it out in his time and if he doesn't...Oh fuckin' well.

Until he learns how to speak english, I suggest you just don't have it present in his presence. Or learn how to speak Japanese. Problem solved.

Edit: In other words, it's impossible to explain that it's not as harmful as people make it out to be to him when he can barely understand what you're saying.

  4. some people have a hard time breaking this false bad image weed has

  5. dont you think you are being a douche?
what if someone did somehting you did not agree with and he was sharing a room, you would like him to force you to like that

  6. Isn't japan one of those places where you could put jailed for like 100 years for a joint? That's probably why he freaked out.

  7. I don't smoke in the room. The problem is he's sketched about nug even being in the room. We weren't even smoking. I pay for part of the room so I should be able to enjoy myself and have my herb on me. Im not going to smoke in the room because he would trip out and possibly actually do something about me smoking. Plus that would be a dick move. I'm talking about slowly exposing him to marijuana every so often, very infrequently at first just to see if he gets less tense about it. I know a kid that speaks japanese also maybe we could get some translating going or something.

  8. Bring over the kid that knows Japanese...It will go miles in making your newfound roommate feel far more comfortable having someone that you know that can actually talk to him about shit.

  9. This. I hate how the media and people who don't know what they're talking about give marijuana a bad reputation.

As for smoking with your new roommate around, I'd say just smoke outside and be considerate of him, hopefully he realizes it doesn't kill you and who knows he might be down to smoke a J or bowl one day.

  10. i know that even a small misdeminor for drugs where i live blocks any chance of flying over to japan.
    japan only

  11. It can actually fuck you flying to a lot of countries even for a visit, especially now.

    Yes.

And culturally it isn't as accepted as it is here in the US and most of EU. Whipping that out in front of him would be like the equivalent of someone pulling out a syringe in front of you when you visit another country.

OP, respect his boundaries and culture and just smoke outside if it bothers him.

  13. u shoula told him he was thinking about a differnt kind of mairijuwana...the kind you have is "safe"
    lol

  14. This is the rationalization of someone who is dealing with something that is not illegal. Honestly, I would be careful because he has to consider the fact that if he gets into any trouble over here they may deport him back to Japan. So even though its harmless and you don't have a problem with it. Who knows what kind of shit he could get into if he got in trouble along with you.

  15. It is legal to smoke if you are older than 21. I explained to him that it was legal, yet he still wasn't ok with it because he sees it as a very bad drug. I know so many people who have smoked with their japanese exchange students. No one is going to come into my room looking for herb unless the exchange student complains and the police hate to deal with drug related stuff so they tend to let the school handle it and not give out mip's unless you run into the dick officer downtown while smoking a J.

He would get into shit if he got caught with bud on him. He would probably sent back to Japan (obviously depending on what the schools decision is) although he is never going to have bud on him and if he ever did I would totally take the blame. I wont smoke in the room unless he is going out for a bit I may spark a bowl:smoking:. I just want him to understand that marijuana isn't a crazy sketched out drug. He probably thinks I'm some drug addict.

  16. Like Oscar said, it would definitely help to have your friend that speaks Japanese come over.

  17. I lived in Japan for a bit. It's considered a hardcore drug there and the jail time is ridiculous. I think you go to prison. Marijuana is associated with gangs like the yakuza and is very very taboo.

  19. OP, you need to respect this guy's culture even if you think it's stupid. Get your own place if you want freedom in what you do.

  20. I do man, I had no idea that I was going to freak the guy out. I live on school campus and had a room to my self for the first week and a half of the quarter then Sunday I come to my room and there is a japanese kid in my room. No one told me about it. If I were to move out it would cost me money just to leave then I have to find a house. Its just not worth it. I think its possible to keep marijuana in the room hidden because I'm not going to stop smoking because of my roommate. I will respect him by not smoking in the room. He seemed cool as long as it was out of the room. What I couldn't understand was if he wanted the nugs out or me not to smoke in the room. Well anyways I need my friend to talk to the guy.
