Howdy all, Not my first grow, but my first attempt at sharing on a forum. I prefer growing in large tupperware containers, due to the large space inside. Some don't like them because they aren't tall enough, but in my last grow, I stacked 2 taller bins and cut the bottom out of the top one and the top out of the bottom one, creating a double-tall chamber that looks just like 2 stacked containers. I know, right? it's not exactly "stealth". I usually paint the insides white to eliminate light leak, but I'm working on getting some mylar to cut that down. Open the lid to reveal my babies - 5 in all - I started with 6, but one didn't make it. Not pictures here is the 48" fluorescent grow bulb fixed to the underside of the lid. Also hanging is my 26watt CFL, and there's a 10 in that lamp. Side view from inside. They're about 3 weeks old right now. I started the one on the right a week or so early, hence its size. I was planning on a SCROG, but now I'm leaning towards LST'ing them in circles with a CFL hanging from the centre of each plant, ensuring good coverage. I know i need more light anyway, so I'll wait for them to get a bit taller before I LST, then upgrade the lighting at the same time. I've got them on a 24-0 light cycle, and I'm keeping the temp pretty constant(the thermo in pic 2 says 26.1 - thats 78 for you Yanks) with the fan, drawing air through an intake in the wall right behind it, exhausting through the holes in the lid. It took me a while to get the holes thr right size for equilibrium. I have no idea what species I'm growing, I picked the seeds off my dealer who doesn't know shit about his own product. The smoke was good though, nice and heavy, that and the leaf shape tells me its indica. Comments/suggestions/flames? g'head.
good lookin' setup...however Your biggest plant seems to be in the smallest pot. Why is that? May want to repot it soon... And the two plants on the left are in the same pot. That's generally a no-no, since it'll be a bitch to re-pot them later, if you do, and they could just choke or stunt eachother. But...I've never really done it, just avoided it altogether, so if you've had success in the past or don't care, more power to ya. Good work though. There are a couple of journals here in which people use big rubbermaid/tupperware storage containers as well. Can get some great results from it, and it's cheap too
Right, I guess I can't claim originality on the tupperware thing. At least I know it works. As for the biggest plant/smallest pot, i know, i started it before i bought those bigger pots. I will repot soon to a pot with a bunch of LST ties around the rim. And there's actually 3 plants in that one pot. I did it to save space, as there's not a lot of real estate in there for a bunch of huge pots. I figured I could get away with it if I used a bigger pot. I was going to LST them in all different directions to make sure they all had light, but yes, I probably will have some root problems. Thanks for the speedy reply!
You're welcome. I can tell you that painting the inside of it is original to me Most people would use some aluminum foil for a cheap grow. As far as getting away with 3plants/1 pot, it depends on how ya' look at it. Yeah, they'll probably grow okay, but they'll be stunted is all, and yield little compared to what they would in their own pot. Definitely a space saver though. Just don't bother repotting them...I think you'd hurt them more than help them, in the long run. For future reference, you could try seperating the soil with a piece of plastic, glass or anything of the sort...not paper, though, or something that will dissolve. I've used a thin piece of plastic meant for picture frames to keep two plants seperated in one pot and they worked out.
Yeah, I had that idea to make a soil divider, I guess I just forgot. I think I might try that before the roots get big, or maybe its too late and they're already all knotted up. My best option is probably to just water them a lot to make up for the choke factor, you think?
Eh, I wouldn't think so...They wouldn't stretch around so much for water/thus they wouldn't tangle so much with eachother, but you don't want to starve them either. Plus, with watering a lot, you run the risk of OVERwatering, especially when they're young. Personally, I would just go ahead and water when the soil is dry as usual, ya know, but mostly focus the water on the base of the plants rather than all over the pot. And maybe give them just enough water so they are satisfied, don't drench the pot, if you can measure that well enough (just watch the leaves, they'll perk up when quenched). If you think you can get away with a repot/insterting a divider, then go for it...you might be better off in the end, but of course you might set growth back. Just depends on how much you care about their current living conditions
You're right, while I could leave it and just water them, those three plants represent 66% of my total crop. I'll buy some more soil and repot them tomorrow.
Alright, I did some upgrading, here's Tuppergrow 2.0 Better angle, you can see the fluorescent bar now, and I added a splitter with 2x25W CFLs (I had to LST two plants out of the way so they dont touch the light when its closed). Decided to forgo all the different pots in favor of one window box with dividers. I used photo album pages for now. They're paper, but covered in plastic, so they should hold until i can cut some plastic sheets. Added a moisturemeter in the back there. couldn't hurt. I'm probably going to have to cut the vents wider to accomodate for the heat from the extra bulb.
cool. that paper will get wet/dissolve over time though. maybe get some plastic if ya got it, if not, no biggie. Lookin good dude.
uhh, are you sure this isn't your first grow? because your doing it wrong. like really wrong. first off, your lights need to be pointed at the plants and you need some sort of reflective surface to direct as much light at the plants as possible, all lighting should be around 2" or closer from the top of the plants unless it gets too hot. 2nd, GET THE RIGHT KIND OF LIGHTS, your shit is all spindly and stretchy because the lights your using arent directed properly at the plants so they are having to stretch toward them, But also because the cfl's you are using are the wrong kind, YOU ARE USING ALL RED SPECTRUM, thats a problem for veg. you want blue spectrum, daylight 6500k. blue spectrum will promote vegitation which is what you want, not spindly ass stretch like your getting. Do a little research bro, Its not hard to find easy ways to grow with cfl's and figure out how to do it properly and get a nice yield. Also, to be honest, tuppoware containers or any kind of small container just makes growing harder, If you can ditch it, then ditch it. between lighting placement and ventilation it will only get in your way. clear out your closet, get a few cheap clamp on shop lights at walmart and some daylight cfls for veg and some warm cfls for flowering and put 2 in each clamp light with a y adapter. You can get some string and hang or clamp them right above the tops and it will cover a nice amount of area, you can probably cover 4 plants from start to finish with just 2-3 of those. or if you have some money and get a few extra ones you can put them on the sides of the plants and end up with a closet full of light, a huge canopy and a very large harvest. Which might be a good idea for that tube light you have, put it on the side or verticaly on the side and put the cfls right at the tops. Good luck.
