Frank Zappa

  1. High everybody! Tomorrow, Dec. 4th is the anniversary of Frank Zappa's death from prostrate cancer in 1993. I miss him. For those of you who have never heard of him, look him up on youtube and watch and learn. The man was a musical genius and played a big part in my life growing up...He also wrote and preformed some of the most whacked out crazy music you'll ever hear. He was a talented guitar player as well. You younger kids don't hear any covers of Franks music, because it was nearly impossible to duplicate...very complex. I'd like everybody who reads this to fire one up and have a moment of silence for the late great Frank Zappa tomorrow! And then listen to some of his music if you have any...I'll bet you enjoy it! Thank you for reading and enjoy the buzz! He sure did!

    RIP Frank Zappa!

Got to love Zappa. But believe it or not he did not use drugs. Nobody will ever come close to Zappa,s style and talent.

"During the recording of Freak Out!, Zappa moved into a house in Laurel Canyon with friend Pamela Zarubica, who appeared on the album.[57] The house became a meeting (and living) place for many LA musicians and groupies of the time, despite Zappa's disapproval of their illicit drug use.[60] He labeled people on drugs "assholes in action", and he only tried cannabis a few times without any pleasure.[61] He was a regular tobacco smoker for most of his life, and strongly critical of anti-tobacco campaigns.[62] After a short promotional tour following the release of Freak Out!, Zappa met Adelaide Gail Sloatman. He fell in love within "a couple of minutes", and she moved into the house over the summer.[49] They married in 1967, had four children and remained together until Zappa's death."

  3. He experimented with drugs early on, like most of us did back then. Did not like them much, but he was ok with weed. The time you are talking about was when the harder drugs (heroin and coke) were popular with musicians, etc...he REALLY did not like them...understandably...they killed a lot of his friends. And he did not want to die that way. I met him once on a cross country flight and had the pleasure of talking and sitting next to him for about 4 hours. I was young, played guitar, and a fan already, so it made quite an impact on me. He was extremely nice too.

  5. Yeaa, it was! Imagine you're already sittin down on what you think is gonna be another boring long dull flight with a crappy movie and friggin Frank Zappa walks on the plane and then sits right next to ya...I nearly crapped my pants! I was like 22 years old....he's prolly still laughing about the kid he freaked out on that flight...only famous person I ever met except for Art Monk of NFL Redskins fame. I have to say they were both two of the nicest men I have ever met. But Frank was deep....we talked about all kinds of stuff, pyramid power, weird stuff, funny stuff, drug stuff, other musicians he knew. I had just gone to see Stevie Ray Vaughn, before he was famous, at an old dive bar in Dallas and told him about SRV, and how he blew me away with his guitar work...he had not heard of him yet, but I bet he did hear of SRV and, I hope, thought of me when he did. He was very passionate about guitar players and playing.

I hope ya'll played some of his music in his honor! :smoke:
