Fox Farm Ocean Forest Acidic Issues

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by apexsmoker, Oct 5, 2020.

  1. Recently started growing a few plants with FFOF and I didn't check the soil ph because I've never had problems with it before. Well I tested the runoff on my plants and it was like 4.5 , not even sure how they are living.
I grabbed an expirement cup of the same soil and did a runoff test on it with the correct ph and it still came out extremely acidic.
After SEVERAL flushes it's still acidic. What gives?!

  3. I always advise growers to add 30% perlite to any FFOF

add more should you intend to add your own nutes later

  4. I have a ph pen on the way. Using the reagent color tests.
I just don't understand how this works. If I'm watering with 6.5 ph, how is the ph being drastically lowered by the time it runs off? I did a slurry test with the reagent by filtering out any dirt after letting it sit for a while, and it's still acidic.

  5. So you're saying that as the water travels down the soil it's picking up stuff that's acidic and throwing off the results? And that's why runoff is inaccurate?
