"Let us be perfectly clear: We are not now, nor have we ever been, a Christian nation. Our founding fathers explicitly and clearly excluded any reference to "God" or "the Almighty" or any euphemism for a higher power in the Constitution. Not one time is the word "god" mentioned in our founding document. Not one time. The facts of our history are easy enough to verify. Anybody who ignorantly insists that our nation is founded on Christian ideals need only look at the four most important documents from our early history -- the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, the Federalist Papers and the Constitution -- to disprove that ridiculous religious bias. All four documents unambiguously prove our secular origins." Great read -- Founding Fathers: We Are Not a Christian Nation
Do u think their religion had no influence? They have all recorded their faiths. None of them are atheist like me, lest they lieth. Lol. We purposely decided that the church of England belonged to the stupid brits and we rejected that outright as another slap in the face of the bland food eatin island monkeys. The dates on the documents included it, granted it was more a formality but everything in the documents seemed well thought out. Sent from my VK815 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Most of them declared or listed themselves to a sect of Christianity. Sent from my VK815 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Nearly everyone of them had a sect of xianity listed. Sent from my VK815 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
National archives is a good start for you. Google, which I think u have used in another thread has what I call the atheist apologist perspective. As an atheist myself I would love them to have been part of my belief system. Alas they were not. Sent from my VK815 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
You'd have to be more specific. You made the claim, I am not going to do the work to try to prove it for you. “The Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” ~1797 Treaty of Tripoli signed by Founding Father John Adams
I am not here to prove anything. Quite frankly I get tired of people to lazy to learn or stop researching when they found the answer they want. We are all as ignorant as we want to be. Sent from my VK815 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Quite frankly I don't care if they were Christian or not. It isn't that I am to lazy, it's just not a topic I have researched too thoroughly for lack of interest, but what I do recall having learned they were deists. Some were Christian deists but deists nonetheless.
I'm atheist, too, and atheism is growing at its highest levels ever. But it's hard to compete with Christianity when you have the Bible Belt impacting this nation.
what's with this "an American American" thing going on? I'm more 'merican than you.... their version is exclusive and hateful. "only white Christians allowed! our country!" f it. legislation won't ban gay marriage or put "morals" back into schools because it is actually against what this nation stood for, freedom of religion without being legislated. good article!
Slowly we are embracing secularism and humanism but at a cost. Marriages seem to be a joke, education is better than when I was a kid basically due to focus on reading but our math and technological schooling needs much more work for tomorrow's society. Freedom is such an individual concept that it can be argued till the cows come home, and we don't own cows. My concern is about the future of capitalism and the replacement of the worker by technology. I may start a thread about my thoughts. It looks like some great thinkers and dreamers in here and that is promising. Though i do not agree with everyone I would like the input from those opposing views at well. It is not the people that agree with me I seek advice from as they would not open my eyes to the challenges ahead. Sent from my VK815 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
