There are too many new metal bands and they all happen to suck major dick. For example, job for a cowboy, bring me the horizon, and all of these shitty bands that claim to be metal, but in all reality are just as bad as emo bands. I wanted to create a thread for people to share decent metal bands with each other. I like metal bands with some good music theory and actual talent. Although all that remains and lamb of god are mainstream, they have undeniable talent and are exceptions.

Something about metal really gets me when I'm high and makes me feel amazingly happy. Too bad I'm on probation and can't smoke for a while :(.

    Bands you should listen to:

    Emperor
Arsis (the album We are the Nightmare)
    Arch Enemy
    All That Remains
    Lamb of God
    Opeth
    Nevermore
    Blotted Science
    Jeff Loomis (solo stuff)
    Ihsahn (solo stuff)
some Unearth because their guitarist is great
some Between the Buried and Me
    Black Sabbath:smoking:
    The Grateful Dead
    Yes
    The Allman Brothers
    Little Feat
    Led Zep
Pink Floyd (especially the album Meddle)+David Gilmours solo shit
    The Moody Blues
    James Brown
    The Temptations
    Blues
...Lots more that I can't think of off the top of my head...

  2. i like to call it Emotal. Its emo metal.

I dont like it either. Metal is supposed to be metal, taking it and shaping it over your estrogen problems is not metal.

    Good band list.

  3. Only SOME Unearth?

They're one of the best 'metal' bands around. I saw them live, for the first time, back in 2001 when they toured with Zao and Shai Hulud, and A Life Once Lost. Their guitarist is good, but their drummer is boss.

    Other good bands:

    God Forbid
    This Day Forward
    A Life Once Lost
    Arsonists Get All The Girls
    After The Burial
    Knights Of The Abyss
    All Shall Perish
    The End
    Sworn Enemy
Every Time I Die (their old shit, before they went emo)
    The Chariot
    Norma Jean

IMO Led Zepplin, Yes, Arch Enemy, and Opeth suck balls... Especially Zepplin. Most over-rated band of all time, imho. The singer has a whiney ass emo voice, and the guitarist really isn't THAT good...

  4. The majority of Unearth, but there are some songs that I'm not a big fan of. The Oncoming Storm never fails to amazing me and III is badass and The March is good, but I wish he would have stuck with his old vocals more, even though they are still present. I have the older albums too, but I haven't listened to them much, but I will start listening to them some more.

  5. some of your list isn't even metal bro. Zeppelin? The Dead? The Alman Brothers? and you're missing Children of Bodom and Pantera! Trivium isn't on there either, nor is Metallica (before the Black album), Anthrax, and a chunk of decent 80s metal.

  6. i listen to alot of deathcore/grindcore/death metal shit, like this:

  8. He also included REAL music. :D

  9. Only three metal bands on that list that I like (One only somewhat)...thanks for getting my hopes all up. ;)

None of those bands suck. Listen to Skeleton Dance by arch enemy, it is the shit. Led Zep and Yes are both amazing, especially Yes because Rick Wakeman is the shit. Opeth is an excellent band and Mikael Akerfeldt is my favorite vocalist as far as both clean and growling, etc. Led zep is slightly overrated, but I have listened to them for as long as I can remember and will always love them. I don't like metallica very much and I'm not a big fan of Trivium either. Nothing that Trivium does really stands out to me. Pantera is awesome, but i'm not as big of a fan of 80's and 90's (although many of the death metal bands I listen to started in the early 90's and emperor, the only black metal band I like.) metal. Although, I do appreciate the fact that today's metal spawned from the 70's and 80's. There are a lot of other metal bands that I didn't list, such as Amon Amarth and others. Amon Amarth was amazing in concert.

Another type of music people should appreciate is jazz. Jazz guitar sounds incredibly badass when you change the tone to sound more metal. Jazz guitar is ridiculously difficult and has some of the most badass sweep picking I have ever seen. My best friend plays only metal and jazz and you name a song and he will learn it in minutes and play it flawlessly including sweep picking and everything. He even adds sweeps to songs that don't have sweeps in them like in The Air That I Breath, by all that remains. He adds sweeps throughout that entire song and plays it better than anyone I've ever heard. We're going to do some recording in the near future and I'll be doing the metal vocals and I can honestly say that I'm good. I can assure you that you will be hearing us some day.:smoke:

  12. None of those bands suck. Listen to Skeleton Dance by arch enemy, it is the shit. Led Zep and Yes are both amazing, especially Yes because Rick Wakeman is the shit. Notice how I said "IMO".

To me, those bands suck. Sorry. Not saying you have to agree with me. Just saying what my personal opinion is.

I don't like Trivium either, btw.

  13. For me, my all time favorite band is Led Zeppelin. Been that way since I was a kid. But I went through a phase in high school where I thought that metal was the shit. I grabbed every metal album I could find and it was all I listened to. After a while, I just realized I wasn't nearly as angry as that music, and started broadening my musical tastes. I started listening to 60's/70' rock and alot of jam bands (god bless the dead channel and jam on) and it made me realize that the best music was made a long time ago. I rarely listen to anything new now, and I only collect vinyl. The only metal I'll listen to now is Hatebreed, and thats a pretty rare occasion. I guess my point would be that nothing beats a Sunday morning with a fat bowl, my lady, and The Band. You can't get that vibe with metal.

  15. I used to listen to metal 24/7. I was an underground snob. Mostly black and death metal. Favorite band at the time was Sargeist and Peste Noire (black metal), and Sikfuk and Abysmal Torment for the more death/grind/gore kind of stuff. I was always more into the underground black metal scene though. These days, I just listen to whatever. I don't like to limit myself.

  16. megadeth>metallica>Testament flotsam and jetsam?
Pantera? Unearth is awesome as far as talented musicians go, i havnt seen a group of pure talent since avenged seven fold and i have a belief theyre work was done by studio musicians because they have such a goth pussy image but it dosnt really bother me, the guitarist from atreyu is amazing i have to say dan jacobs is his name, hes not AMAZING, hes a little better than i am ie awesome sweep techniques i just like his style,
new guns and roses has a FEW good guitarists but they shouldnt even be called G'N'R anymore they should be called axl's popsquad and the red dreaded pussy face who cant stay intune live anymore,
But ill say megadeth was God from 1989-the mid/late ninties, Marty friedman was the best metal lead guitarist period, he brought elements of fusion to the table which was genious and put a new edge to metal soloing/ the virtuoso aspect of it at least
I will post now a few videos to be enjoyed

  17. Well.... IMO ALL the bands you listed suck balls..... I hate metal-core so god damn much and it pisses me off when I see people mix them up with actual metal.

I'm not trying to disrespect you or anything since I respect EVERYONE'S opinion on what their musical tastes are. But I think you should broaden your musical horizon a bit.

Have you ever listened to Isis? They are a post-metal band with hardcore influences and they are veeeeerrrry cool. They are super trippy and are one of my current favorites.
    Here's a vid.

  18. I can definitely get that vibe with metal, but I also understand where you're coming from. Sometimes I just want to listen to some chill music. I listen to a shitload of 60's and 70's music and have a lot of it on vinyl. Something about metal just makes me feel the really good, not angry or anything, but just content and happy.

Heard of them, but never heard them. Nice chill song
