I realize this is in odd topic to post here, but I am generally very partisan in my voting (Democrat). I've been trying to understand exactly why people choose not to vote or register to vote. So, on the off chance that there are those of you out there: Why don't you vote? What dissuades you from exercising your right to have an influence on your society? All comments welcome!
Voting is just a ritual that maintains an illusion of Democracy. It doesn't matter who gets more votes. It's not even verifiable by most voters who got more votes. If there is a dispute, there is no consistent mechanism to settle it. And in the end, R or D never makes much difference in policy anyway. Having said all that, I have only missed voting one time (2006) since I turned 18 (10 election years).
I never play games that are rigged. That's why I don't vote because you can't win either way. It does'nt matter whose the president he's not the one running the show. If you want to find that you gotta look in the upper 1% of Americas wealth.
Do people *not realize* that the only electoral college vote is for the president? Everything else is direct representation. I know bloody well that there are certain people in my town, and in my state that I do *not* vote for because I do not want them in office [for diverse reasons] Get the hell out and vote. Vote for weed decriminalization, or weed legalization. Vote against stuffy old incumbent politicians and get some new young blood that will try for legalization. Vote for members of the school board, the town dog catcher. If you don't vote, you can't bitch about the results not being to your wishes.
Voting is important, but if someone is ignorant on politics, and especially economics, it doesn't really matter if they vote or not. An uneducated vote is simply a guess, so it only serves to add an element of randomness to the outcome. So I don't have a problem with most people not voting, because most of the general population are pretty ignorant on the issues.
for you : [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl2JQfxnnHU"]Joe Rogan - The American War Machine - YouTube[/ame]
if you had actually watched it, your point gets refuted within the first two mins, if you did watch it and you still ask me whats the point then explain how is uneducated vote simply a guess, people dont guess vote, look at any political rally, you think all their votes can be classified as simply a guess? because I got news for you, most of them are in an active comatose state regarding the real world and what is going on in it. they prefer imagination land.
That is my point dude... The people I am talking about are the people who you are talking about also, the ones who don't know reality, those are the uneducated, it doesn't matter if they go to political rallies every single day, they still don't know shit. And yes I know about what's happening, much more in depth than the Joe Rogan video goes into. Brainwashing through tv using the emotion center of peoples' brains, programming ideas into people that they normally would never even have thought of independently, controlling their very belief system. And about killing for money? Of course that's what the government does, that's what they have been doing for many years now. We go to war primarily for money, drugs, and oil. Anything that can generate a lot of money for the international corporate and banking elite, is the policy of the government because they control policy completely. Government controlled educational system is another major form of brainwashing. It's a tool used by the statist regime in order to impregnate their fascist agenda into the minds of the youth so they grow up without questioning the lack of liberties, and the constant stripping of personal freedoms. They also heavily manipulate how historical events are portrayed and what is omitted or added to the school books in order to serve their interests. So again, how is my point refuted? If enough people knew what was happening we would be able to change things very quickly, and voting is part of how that change is effected.
Like the previous poster said, voting maintains the illusion of democracy. Nothing more to say. Don't vote.
whats with all these quotes with a picture to side, posts recently? anyone else noticing this trend? is this some kind of new interwebs cool thing to do?
Because there is no proportional representation in the UK. Nor will there be for many years now that the only party campaigning for it have sold out the idea...
Because 90% of people don't read more than 1 sentence of a forum post. And if it's quoted text, they read even less. But if it's in JPG format, it makes it look important. It grabs their attention and they'll read 2 sentences.

This is very interesting. Because the more you learn about politics and economics the more you realize voting doesn't matter.
Because voting doesn't matter, big business is in charge of everything and no one has the balls to stand up to them. And if they do they don't get the majority of votes anyways because the majority goes to the candidate that has the strongest religious stance and who has the most "rah rah america", because that's what stupid people want.
religion has nothing to do with it. look at any serious political contender and look who "donates" the most---corporations thats who.
