for a quick, basic organic soil blend

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Laucass83, Nov 24, 2023.

  1. Looking at a way to build a soil with what's available up North the border in Canada, where nurseries all close during winter and with what's left available at home improvement stores. How much success or trouble am I looking at if I want a cheap organic soil that I am not looking to reuse for more than a 2nd run?
Was thinking about using this as base (peat, perlilte, lime)

then add 1 bag of composted sheep manure and 1 of cow manure, with usual dry amendments like gypsum, rock dust, kelp meal, gaia green power bloom and K sulfate.

This together would come to about the same price as a coco run, but make much more sense to me than a drain to waste setup. Doable?

  2. add some perlite and you should be good to go my soil is almost like that i like the extra perlite to help with drainage and you could throw in a bag of EWC

  3. Yep, that will be great, that's basically what PRO-MIX HP is.

  4. I'd suggest checking out NorthernAutos thread. I believe he's from the Great White North and is killing it with his growing medium.

  5. Thanks Tim! I have to say NA's plants are stunning! The outdoor one is just spectacular with the shades of colour and her classic outdoor beautiful bud structure! Really makes me want to grow in the real sun.
The KIS soil mix seems amazing. Went see their site and I like what I see. Problem is not much supply around. I found some 400 miles that is the closest, and would charge me 75$ for shipping. I'll try to supply more locally.

  6. ordered from home D, got 3 bags of manure, the 2,5cuft of that sunshine raised bed mix, 1cuft of perlite combo with 5K of coco (was same price as just the perlite, so I have some free coco now) total with shipping just under 100$
Big thanks to all of you =)

  7. Are you growing autos in it? I gotta figure out a good, easy mix for autos with what’s available around here.

  10. Honestly man I think you lucked out! I used the Sunshine Organic mix with compost and bark mulch. Used about a gallon of just the Sunshine Organic mix as the initial starter like @Organic sinse does in a ten gallon pot. ( He uses FF light warrior) for autos and it worked ok for autos. When I tried the Sunshine Organic in red cups for photos they absolutely hated it. I’m pretty sure @TimJ had a bad experience with the ProMix HP?

  13. No clue! I’m thinking it’s better than ProMix. Are you able to source Roots Organic for a decent price? I know it works great from start to finish all by itself for autos - you can literally cut the bag open and put a seed in there! For photos it works great at 50% Roots 25% compost 25% bark mulch.

  15. Roots Organic is sold in the hydro shops here in NY. It's a little expensive. I'm not sure if it's sold in your area RD. I'm sure you'll find and visit some nurseries and hydro shops soon enough.

  16. Anybody tried to source premier peat available at lowes? Cheap and is a good ingredient for mixes. Ive had no issues with even fussy ornamentals.
    Cheers

  18. You know the Premier brand is behind Promix. No issues to report?

  19. Pretty much all peat comes from just a few parent companies. The premier is just ground up baled peat. No perlite, lime, or surfactants. Its a blank slate to build on.

  20. Buy it as soon as it arrives, some places leave it out in the weather to get gnats & heavy AF. PM is PM as far as I can tell & it's only 1 part of my soil anyway.
