food and soil

hey there. im getting ready for my first grow in my apartment. i have everything in place besides seeds and plant food/soil. im using my closet. for germination and seedling growth i have a box with a couple flourescents and a separate box with a hps400w for flowering. my first question has to do with soil. what is a good mixture for growing with minimum transplanting? second, what are some tried and true food mixtures for each stage of my future plant's lives? any other tips would be appreciated. thanks

also i am only growing 4-6 plants per harvest and growing them short (sort of a small scale sea of green type method), which would explain only having a 400w bulb in flowering chamber

 

another question: if i germinate in rockwool cubes that are constantly moist, could i, in theory, just plant the rockwool at the surface of my veg/flowering soil when the seeds sprout??
