Folk music

  1. For quite a while I've been captivated by the music of the folk - of all folk - as it carries such an unbridled, sincere, heathen spirit unmatched by any other style. I find myself spurning my electric guitar in favor of the acoustic, ensorcelled by the desire to aestheticise the scandinavian and gaelic blood coursing through my veins.

    Currently bloating my ipod:
Drudkh - Songs of Grief and Solitude
    Nest - http://www.myspace.com/nestfinland
    Ulver - Kveldssanger
    Carved In Stone http://www.myspace.com/carvedinstoneband
Empyrium - Weiland and Where At Night The Wood Grouse Plays http://www.myspace.com/empyriummistyfields
    Neun Welten - http://www.myspace.com/neunwelten
    Vali - http://www.myspace.com/valiband
    Fjord - http://www.myspace.com/fjord
    Graumahd - http://www.myspace.com/graumahd

  2. I don't listen to much folk, but I like it. Have you seen the movie A Mighty Wind? It's about these old folk groups reuniting for a festival, it's funny as fuck.

  3. I really like Nest and Ulver. I've yet to hear Drudkh's folk album, but their black metal material is excellent. Is Empyrium as good as Ulver and Nest? I've been thinking about checking them out. I've heard great things about them

Moonbow, by Nest is a great song.

  4. I listen to a lot of Folk/Punk shit, its really good.

    Check out:
    Mischief Brew/Erik Petersen
    Defiance, Ohio
    Against Me! (early albums)
    Ghost Mice
This Bike is a Pipe Bomb
Johnny Hobo and The Frieght Trains

Mischief Brew is probably the best though.

  5. Iron & Wine and Nick Drake

  6. ^

second those two choices, add Damien Jurado, Rosie Thomas and Jose Gonzalez

  7. if you like folk, you need to listen to devendra banhart.

  8. Defiance Ohio is amazing! I love Share What Ya Got, fucking perfect album I swear.

  9. Bob Dylan! Leadbelly! Bright Eyes! Folk!:smoke:

  10. Bright Eyes indeed.

Check out the album I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, plus the majority of his older, more raw shit is heavily folk in sound.

Little Yellow Spider makes me happy.

  11. For my folk music needs I go straight to Iron and Wine or Elvis Perkins.

  12. The Pinole Ramblers!

they are a folk band from the Pinole East Bay Area 510! they are all my homies and are all for the smoke of the devil. alot of covers from other older folk artist such as woodie gunther (probably spelt wrong) and there originals. most of there songs are about things and people from our neck of the woods. but if you like you folk with some pizzaz check them out on there myspace located conviently in my sig!
