Fluoros vs. HPS

Discussion in 'Indoor Cannabis Growing' started by xplovibe, Jun 30, 2005.

  1. i've seen a grow guide of sum WhiteRhino that used only fluoros and the growth was impressive (bushy and lots and lots of crystals on the leaves and buds)...
so is it possible to grow only on fluoros ?? it seems so...
does anybody have any info on where to buy fluoros and how do they look like ? and what do you think on fluoro vs. HPS thingie

  2. it is possible but the yields will be a lot smaller. floros are good for vegetative growth but for flowering youre gonna want something with a little more juice, so an HPS is reccommended. you can get floros at any hardware store, or like wal mart or somethin. and theyre usually in the form of tubes.

  3. xplo,

I use fluoro's and get results I'm happy with......I'd love to try HPS, but for me it's not possible in my current house - too much of a heat / fire risk. Flouro's are really cheap to run and dont produce much heat......theres pro and cons to both, check out the journal section and you'll see some results from both set ups.

Hope all goes well for you, happy growing.........

  4. thanks for the info Polski. how many and how much wattage should i use for one plant ?

  5. think of it more in terms of lumens. i ran my first grow with just floros and got a great crop (about 16,000 lumens for a small closet) but this time i bought a hps and have nearly 36,000 lumens. I can definately tell the difference, though. my first crop, although dank and sweet, was rather tall between nodes. this time they are bushy, really bushy! we'll be able to compare yields in another 6 weeks or so.

  6. xplo,

The more light you can get the better. I use 1x200w + 1x125w envirolights for flowering. (If you do a google search for Envirolights you'll find somewhere you can buy them.) I could easily flower 4-6 plants under these lamps and get OK results.

If you can only get smaller fluoro bulbs, try positioning them around the plant to spread the light more. The guy doing the White Rhino was using 180w of fluoro - various bulbs around his plant - he was getting great results, so it is possible. Check out Vokal's journal for a cool fluoro set-up.

    Best of luck man..........happy growing.
