Hi, i'm new to growing and to this forum. I found a set of fluoro lights online while researching grow systems. Comes with two bulbs-red spectrum, blue spectrum- with a total of 8400 lumens. Just wondering if this is enough to carry the plants through harvest. Cost $79 and since i'm new don't wanna waste big bucks on HPS and get discouraged when crop fails and tossed the whole setup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
i bought 4 shop ballasts at 9 bux a piece. each held 2 4 ft. 40 watt bulbs each. a total of 8 bulbs the bulbs were cool white and plant light mixed.. i grew my 1st 2 gros this way both growing a female plant from start to finish. the buds were lighter than my 250 but still it grew and worked. i just kept the lights almost touching and used LST training. i don't kno if flouros are worth the 79 bux tho? for 110 i got a 250 watt hps on ebay. works great and tight nugs just freakin hot!!!!!!! everybody's crops have failed one way or another at some point. believe me don't toss your setup just figure out the problem. its usually not the setup but your own mistakes. thats the great part about pot. you can always start over again.
That's kinda' pricey for a flourescent lite, ain't it? Especially if you consider the fact that for another hunnert bucks you can buy a 400w HPS, and still have about twenty bucks left toward a halide conversion bulb (for veggin'). For that much money, you can get a 150w cfl, including a nice reflector, at Home Depot and it'll throw alot more than 8000 lumens!!! Nah, the more I think about it, that is way too much for, what a 65w cfl? Skip it. Elrod Kadiddlehopper
