Flowering in mid may

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by wereami, May 27, 2018.

  1. my clones started flowering around 5 weeks after planting. Never had this happen before. These are not autoflower clones. What could cause the shift from veg to flowering. They get direct light from 6am till 8pm. Any ideas guys and gals

  2. Here is a pic. Def not preflowers

  3. Did you make these clones or did you buy them because what ends up happening in my opinion is that they go from 20 or 24 hours of light down to 14 could definitely put them in flower. That's why I run seeds preferably indicas when you're trying to grow outdoors planting 420

  4. If you've done this before with success, you were lucky. You shouldn't put clones outside that early. If you don't have supplemental lighting on them - they'll trigger flower.
14.5 hours daylight can trigger flowering depending on strain.
I've thrown clones out on the generally recommended June 1st and have had most flower on me. If I did it again, I'd wait until mid June - and even then they might flower prematurely.
I did a test last year and started seeds late May and they all popped out of the ground by June 1st - then I went to the dispensary and bought clones and planted them outside at the same time. Individually the seed grown plants both yielded more than the 3 clones did put together. Personally I'd grow some plants from seed now. Those clones are gonna be a headache. Good luck

  5. Depending on where you are living, planting June 1st is the earliest you can plant without triggering flower. I am in NorCal. If I am planting clones that have been under 24, 20, 18 hours of light , I usually gradually step down the light to eventually get the light to 15 hrs exposure indoors over a period a month, while taking the pots outdoors for natural sunlight during the day then bring them back in before sunset. That way when the sun light is 14.5 hours per day I can plant and not trigger flower. It has served me well for years. Good luck

  6. Any cannabis plants started indoors under 18 or more hours of light will go into flower prematurely when moved outside.
To keep this from happening you need to provide a little supplemental lighting. I use a small shop light with a 100 watt incandescent bulb on a timer.
The light turns on at sunset and off at around 10:00. I adjust the time a little to shorten the "time on" as the days get longer.

This plant was started from seed inside 18/6 light schedule the first week of February. I moved it outside when the time changed in March. I will harvest in October. Long grow season makes for large plants. Large plants make large yields. Supplemental lighting will be done and no longer needed by summer solstice.

  7. Hello MrFooey! It doesn't apply in a lot of situations if you don't have power at your grow. Like me. Hence what I posted above. The other factor that concerns me is the light outdoors attracts moths and bugs if you are out in the country. Good luck this season with your grow. Hope that you are well. :)

  8. True it's not a perfect system.
I've tried solar lightning and that works okay but it's hard to find lights that can be turned off when needed. The bugs are just part of the grow and are handled by being proactive not reactive.

I'm doing well, how's life in Northern California? Praying hard for a light fire season. Last year was a true bitch.

  9. I feel you. Not much is perfect growing outdoors, and being proactive is very important! Yes! Last fire season was really a bitch. We were very fortunate! Life is good! Praying for a more relaxed environment this go around. Hopefully we won't get another 100 year wind storm for another 100 years! Stay in touch. Happy cultivating brother!

  10. You only need 15 minutes of light around midnight to keep in flower.

  11. Could be the case but my neighbors bedroom window is just on the other side of my garden. It would be rude of me to have 300 watts of light turn on at midnight for any amount of time. I learned this technique from a friend that was a grower in Columbia.

  12. Then don't put clones out in May. Simple answer.

  13. Okay I'll just do what you say because you said so.

  14. Doesn't really matter. If a neighbors window is as close as you say, you will find out soon enough the problems that will cause. I wont give any more advice to you, as you take it personally for some reason..... Good luck with your grow, hope you do a great job.

  15. You are not suppose to plant a mature plant that early. It will go into flower if it is sexually mature.
Like others said you can use supplemental lighting to prevent this.
It truly matters where you are. I can plant a bit earlier then say cali because I have longer days so early to mid May I am well above 15 hours.
Yours will reveg then flower again. :)
