flourescent lighting

  1. so im going to be starting my first indoor grow and it seems like the only lighting ill be able to use is flourescent.....can anybody suggest the best wattage to use?? how close should they be to the plants and im planning on growing 4 plants and also bout how much light should i put on them?? any help would be appreciated
     
  2. Roughly you need 100w for the first plant, then 50-100w for each additional plant. So with 4 plants, at the VERY LEAST you'd need 250w of CFL's...however I wouldn't recommend running that low of a wattage, you'll definitely run into problems with bud development. It also depends on the size of your grow space.

    I run 6 23w CFL's over top of 1 plant, and 2 on each side during flowering, giving me 138w in veg and 230w in flowering. You can get high wattage CFL's but I find that the 100watters, etc. burn out too fast and are expensive ($20ish per bulb).
