Hi I have a small garden with several Loui 14 plants. I started noticing a lot of flies in the area of my garadge. Few days later it looks like an infistation. They are all over my plants. I do nto want to use chemicals as I do not know the effect it will have on my plants but do not know what else I can use. Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Regular house flys? They're attracted to smelly nasty garbage and dead stuff. Either you have some stinky sexy chronic or a dead animal somewhere. Fungus gnats? They Lay eggs in wet soil and hatch in a week, let your soil dry out more between waterings and keep killing new ones when you see them. You can use fly paper or there are a few non toxic sprays and stuff like neem oil, gognats, diatomaceous earth. Sucking up the flying ones in a shop vac is probably the least harmful as long as you're careful around the plants. I also hear that benificial bacteria will help control them and make your plants way healthier. I use great white in my hydro setup, and it seems like the best to me. (I don't have soil or any bug problems, but damn are my roots happy and white and furry!)
