At the weekend we had our company fishing derby at Tatic Lake Resort on the weekend (70km down gravel roads off vanderhoof). I brung a canoe and me and the Texan fished this creek that goes into the lake (no more then 20' wide at most) the whole time we were catching beautiful rainbows only bringing a few over a pound into the boat. We've had all these 2,3 and 4lb rainbows on untill they were by the boat but never told anyone about thoes to keep them from the creek (they were catching maybe one over a pound if they were lucky and we were catching them all the time and just couldn't keep them on. At the last hour of the derby we say fuck the rods were going gigging and bow fishing for the big ones that didn't take a lure. So the texan pulls out his buck knife with a gut hook and wires it too a pole and we put a swivel on the tip of an arrow and attach it to a fishing rod. We paddle about 300m up the faster water that we've seen all the nice fish and throw anchor. we then slowly creep down the river and got a 8lb sucker gigging (didn't know the word existed till te weekend) and 2 4lb rainbows bow fishing. The Texan won the derby and i came in second (no one noticed the holes in the fish). We backed up what we said becasue we knew we were going to take some big big fish and we got them all when people thought the derby was pretty well over. we won the Texas way; if you can't catch it, then shoot it.
a fellow fisherman. i was just in liverpool illinois this past weekend fishing. the carp are getting out of control and i'm buying a spear gun before i go back up there so i can snorkel and spear the carp.
I'm a big fan of the carp fishing, we fish em on the mississippi here, throw some bread on a trebble hook on the bottom, and your good to go.chum with sweetcorn, pointless to fish them, but they fight pretty good.
it's pretty well a mill and a reserve with some businesses in between, not many people to choose for a team. But awsome lakes and creeks arround their; good for fishing, ATV's, muddin trucks (every second house has a old lifted truck with 34's), sleding, hunting, and general fucking arround with no worries of getteing caught doing something stupid or illegal.
maybe once a year i'll drive by. I wanna go up to Houston right arround their this fall and fish the Steelhead run, now thatd be so damn fun it gives me the gitters just thinking about fly fishing 8lb Steelhead all day. Hopefully i'll be out on the Crooked River this weekend with some guys from work. Thats a nice calm river and you can get 2lb and 3lb rainbows regularly so that'll make for some good fun. The Texan is comming too so me and him are making a proper gigging pole at coffee brake tommorow and he's buying some heavy fibreglass arrows so they'll cut through the water.
