fish tank gravel for growing media?

    hey all,

    I am in process of growing my first plant and was wondering if I can use medium to large size fish tank gravel as a grow media for a bubbleponics or hydroponics system? any info will be greatly appreciated..

    I have a friend that uses washed pea gravel with success, so I'm gonna say yes. (He's a cheap S.O.B.):D

    Fish like alkaline water, just make sure that the fish medium won't affect your ph. Don't think it should but just a heads up. Also, I would try to get a kind that is porous, similar like hydroton.

    I will definetly consider that...and will try to find some gravel that looks closest to the hydroton..

    My first hydro unit i made used rockwool blocks on fish tank gravel. the roots loved the shit.
