Can anyone tell if the benefits of fish hydrolosate like pure protein or down to earth fish powder , are similar as a soil drench vs being brewed in an act ( Tim Wilson’s recipe for well rounded brew)
My plants have responded well from every fish product tried so far from fish compost to that WAY overpriced botl'd fish shit. Any better than cheapo walmart/home depot fish emulsion???
Fish hydrolysate is readily available for the plant to uptake. Fish bone meal or fish meal need to be processed by our soil microbes before the plant can uptake them.
(Down to Earth) has been around along time I’m not sure how the quality stacks up to (Pure Protein) but I guess I’m going to find out!
Hey there Tim j how are you sir ! Hey thanks for the constructive convo from another thread, I pulled everything out of my bags blended in couple gallons more of hulls and it lightened my mix up!
I have used both down to earth fish bone meal and fish meal. They make fine products. I make my own fish hydrolysate. I show the entire process in my journal and in another thread as someone asked how to make it.
Can't say anything bad about DTE but you don't see overnight results, maybe that is better- a slower release??? I don't wanna compost fish.
Fishing here right now is a moot point, at least for a few more weeks, do you believe something like canned salmon would work? How often , at what rate would you feed your home made ?
I wouldn't use anything canned. I believe in sourcing my raw materials locally. As I said I have the whole process documented in my journal. Here's a link. Mainlining and more. Post #827. Edit: Page 45. Post # 896 shows the finished product.
Good lookin out Timj doesn’t seem to intensive. Should I ferment this outdoors? Or can I get away with doing it in the house ?(smell)
I’ve used whole frozen fish. You can make a small batch from frozen bait like herring or anchovy or something similar. It doesn’t take very much fish material to make a jar. Scraps from the fish butcher work too. There’s a lot of magic in the guts and brain! Cheers Os
Thank you sir! I am glad to hear it , I have been reading his work , first time building and growing in soil, figure I should drop the products and learn to brew teas!
I believe the basic tea that RD is speaking about is the compost tea. Made with 4 gallons of water,1-1/2 cups of "fresh" worm castings and 1/3 cup of molasses. Processed this in a simple air lift brewer for 24-34 hours or until the molasses smell is replaced by an earthy smell.
