    Hey guys,

This will be my first grow. I have a small room in my attic that I've made air and light proof. I have a small but powerful fan exhausting air through 3" tubing. my grow room is covered in plastic sheeting that is spray painted matte white.

I'm running a 400w HPS that is air-cooled by a reciprocating fan. My soil is 75% Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Garden Soil, mixed with 15% African Violet soil and 10% Perlite.

My seeds are from the dankest heads I've smoked, stuff like Orange Kush, OG Kush, Cotton Candy, etc. So they all have good heritage.

I plan on starting 10 or 11 seeds until I can determine gender, and then bringing 3-5 to maturity. I might decide to scrog, we will see what happens.

    Wish me luck!

    -Jco

EDIT: I got my camera back, here's the setup

    My set-up:

I'm still germinating the seeds (the light was only turned on for the picture). 3/11 have shown their faces, we're looking pretty good so far.

  3. Hey bud! First things first, These are only MY thougts, and as im also a fist time grower take that into consideration when weighing my opinion...

    Here we go tho.
Do you have a thermometer in their? Whats the temp?

How big is the exuast fan ( how many CFM(Cubic Feet a minute) Does it remove from the room?

Do you have fresh air being fed into the attic?

Also take into consideraton where you live, Is it going to get REALLY hot in their, also remember your gunn have a 400w HID running for 12-18 hours a day acting as a small space heater....

you should get a thermometer in their and let the light run for a day and get a temp reading , my guess is its going to be a bit high, ifthats the case i would recommend a cool tube for your light, theirs a nice DIY tutorial around, ill try and locate it for ya.

    Thats it for now.

    Gl and have fun!

    HPS-

Thanks for the novel! Haha just kidding.

I don't have a thermometer right now. It is kind of warm in there right now with the light on, I'd guess it gets up to 85 or 90 F. But I live in the northeast and it will be getting a lot colder very soon. I think I might have to go the other way and put a space heater up there on a digital thermometer (see http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=5332478)

The exhaust fan is 9" in diameter, but it moves a lot of air. You can see it in the picture I posted on the left side. It looks something like the picture below.

"Fresh air" will come into the attic from the rest of my house. I would love to have legit fresh air come in from outside, but when the temperature drops to 10*F, it will get waaay too cold.

  5. 10 out of 11 are up!

But they are looking a little yellowish. I'm gonna read and see what's up, I don't think it is nute burn.

  6. Day 2: 11/11 sprouts up! SWEET! Average height is about 2.5". They are looking very green and healthy.

Sorry for the terrible photos. I'm using a blackberry, but my camera should be fixed soon.

    Day 12 from seed:

The babies are growing up, most of them are on their third set of fan leaves. It's really crazy, since I planted 11 random seeds, to see all of the plants different genetics. Some are shorter and bushier and some are spreading out real wide or tall. Awesome to watch them develop.

  11. Day 20:

LADYBUGS! Good or bad? Also some yellowing on only one of the plants. But overall, they look beautiful. I started LST. Also, started on with GH FloraNova Grow nutrients and Floralicious+.

  14. you asked about ladybugs... they are awesome natural predators, but what's crazy is how many of them there are on your plants.. it's likely a sign that they're eating something off the leaves (good), but their presence could mean you have spider mites or fungus gnats (bad). i'd say overall, if they stick around long enough they should be able to eat everything in sight... but then again i'm no bug expert and i'm really baked. :)

plants look very good for your first time, keep up the good work.

  15. Thanks man, good to get some confirmation that I'm doing well.

About the ladybugs- Idk if you get this in the NW, but in the NE these bugs are a huge problem in some places. They aren't lady bugs, they are "multicolored asian lady beetles", which you can tell because of the shitload of spots and the W on the face. I guess they're kind of like prostitute ladybugs.

They're coming into my grow room either from holes in the walls, or roof (likely, it is an old house), or from gaps between the window frame and the board I used to seal it up. Since it is getting cold up here, they come into the grow room where it is much warmer and much brighter.

They are all on the plants (I think) because that's really the only shade from the HPS. Like on the lower leaves, under some of the other fan leaves.

BTW, hit the next post for some new pics. They are growing like...weeds :D
