First timers in flowering stage. (medicinal grow)

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by BLCbudcouple, Aug 29, 2012.

  1. Decided to grow my own cannabis this year, I'm tired of playing roulette (will it be good or bad this time) with my Medicine.
:you know what I'm talking about, I know your out there[IMG]

We are 4 weeks into flowering today, and are just curious what people think of our first grow, and what kind of crop we might get.
We grow veggies, and fruits outside and are pretty good at it, but we have never attempted something like this. Shit. to be honest, we had never even seen what the plant looked like up close till this grow. So you see why we want some more experienced growers opinions[IMG]. think ill get at least 1oz off each plant?

Be gentle please. the last thing I want is for one of the green ladies to sneak out of her pot, read a post about herself , get depressed, and have her growth and productivity affected. [IMG] or even worse : dun dun dunnn: hehe

    thanks

  2. Things don't look bad.

More light will always help. Since they are stretched out the way they are you know that the CFL is going to have a hard time lighting them effectively top to bottom.

Good learning experience though. Consider you really only have another 2-3 weeks of feedings and then it's time to rinse and let them finish. You're getting close! Don't overfeed them and you'll get what you get. Probably an ounce or two total, but it's better than nothing.

Step your game up and you'll be real happy with the results. I consume between 1 and 2 grams per day on the average. This is about 500-600 grams on the year for myself. I figure if I get 3 harvests, and only get 0.5gpw, then that means I need a 400w system to ensure that I get everything I need. That's how I justified stepping my game up to a 400w system. But then I wanted more bud, for concentrates and edibles, and stepped up to a 1000w. But the 1000w kills the power bill. Now, after doing CFL, 400w, and 1000w setups... I want a 600w and totally understand why the people who have those systems love them so much.

    Here's to good growing :smoke:

  3. SCMC thanks for the info. where is a good place to look for a well priced 600w CFL?

  4. I think the 600 watt he is talking about is not cfl but probably HPS or MH/HPS combo.

I agree you need more light...but they do look healthy other than that. Up the lumens you up the yield

  5. A 200-300 dollar investment into a HPS(high pressure sodium) lighting system will go a long way, its the right spectrum and puts out a hell of a lot more lumens then CFL. You could even go 150w HPS and still see much improvement... How's your air circulation, got a carbon filter for the smell? One way you could help your girls out is to get a small fan in there... I got a 20 dollar clip on fan about 6 inches across, does the job. Airflow and lighting go hand and hand. Plants only absorb the co2 readily around the leaves so they need the air brought to them, and it strengthens the stalk as well.
    good luck

I have my inline fan attached to the roof of the closet, then ran ducting down put a hole in the floor and that went into crawlspace, slapped a speed regulator on it and, leave it on low(its very quiet like this). have carbon filter ready but so far haven't needed it yet, fan sucks smell out throws it under house and the smell disappears; so far :)
inline fan receives its intake air from some holes i made that went into my bedroom. As for co2 I thought the air we exhaled all night would be enough, but I may be wrong on that. :) I do have a fan in there but its not in picture. my temp maintains about 79. and humidity about 47 average.

I am interested in the HPS system now, but how would that affect my temps in such a small room?.

Alright as far as co2, for cheap you could do the yeast in a bucket with sugar, you wont be able to see your ppm but as long as its bubbling then its producing co2. i have a pretty good system with a bubbler to increase co2 production. it will smell like alcohol when its all dead and done. so might as well put the filter on. though you will have to turn your fan up the filter may help muffle it. good idea venting under your house.

High Pressure Sodium they can be much larger than some CFLs but not all of them are really big. the lower wattage 150w hps will put out a little more heat than your average CFL but you should be fine with your fan running. HPS require a ballast as they won't fit a house hold fixture ( e26 i think) so thats were they start to get expensive. If you want to up your lumens and not spend as much, you could look into these 300w CFls. You have to get the ballast as well but they have the best light penetration than any other CFL ive seen. will run you about 200 bucks all together with both bulbs (2700k and 6500k) or about 130 for the ballast with one bulb ( get the flowering bulb if your only going to get one bulb). they are 15,000 lumens and that could increase your yield a bit depending one your current lumens. you can still suplement light to lower branches with your other CFLs and that will help.

    hope that helps

  8. think I'm going to wait this grow out only because I have to (broke,), but I'm going to be upping my flowering room to an HPS here shortly, it seems like if im going to spend the cash on new CFL bulb I might as well put it into the HPS, not sure on wattage just yet, but I have a little bit to think about it

    thanks a bunch archer [IMG]

  9. The tall ones are a little over fertilized but the others are one of the healthiest plants I have seen on this forum. Might be worth tying down those tall ones to match the height of all the others, or raise the short ones on something. Keep that CFL as close as possible

I use 125w cfls too. I think they are great. Keep up the good work dude

you could supper crop that tall one too... same thing pretty much though. for your next grow you should get some beneficial microbes. i use tomato thrive but there are lots out there, just make sure it has mycorrhizal (not sure on spelling). and co2 will get you some nice fat herb next time around. the higher the co2 levels the higher the heat can be and the plant will thrive.

how r they doing so far. did the sugar fairies come? haha

  11. instead of super cropping I decided to tie (LST) the Pineapple chunk down. but in doing so I did end up snapping one of the big buds on it, not a bad snap just a forward snap if that makes any sense, it flops forward but is still able to support weight if I stand it up straight. (I ended up S.C anyways i guess) That's what I get for being all HULK like with them, thought they liked it rough, but I was wrong. jeje.
Light is a lot closer now, I hope it gets to benefit from it even though i did it so late.
heres a few pics of them now 10 days after the pictures above.

  12. If it didn't break the cuticle then thats a super crop, apply a little super glue to the "snapped" part to strengthen it for now, it will chip off in three or so weeks and thats fine just would help for while its still fresh. watch how the branches start to grow up wards towards the light. when the buds are finished you will have several main colas. if you r looking to bring out the purple colors in it there a thread on that on here. im going to be trying that out, i just realized that Im just a few day behind you. Im on week 5 today, our plants r cycling together ;)

  13. IMO you should trim those fan leaves on your horizontally growing portion, let some light through to those other lower buds. Just the ones that r creating a lot of shade. i trim almost all my fan leaves so don't be afraid to take a few, your to far in to take a lot just like 2-3 maybe four if there a problem. make sure that theres a stem before you cut it, the rule is if you can hold enough stem to pinch it off with your thumb and forefinger its ok to cut, not the sugar leaves. Use clean sharp floral scissors if you have them, or regular scissors if you don't (there like 10 bucks).
    happy growing

hey Archer, you think you could post a few pics of your girls here? just wanna see how I compare, that would really be a big help for me, well if you can that is. Also I saw a post you made looking for a micro grow, a mini fridge is totally possible man!
Go to you tube and type in stealth grow, or micro grow, you'll definitely find an idea there yo.

    TBA :hello:

Almost forgot. I added some co2, found a DIY I liked online that seemed to be pretty popular. how long before I see results from it you know?

  15. Nice grow BLC. I'm growing CFL also. 7 plants in a 5x3 closet. 897 total watts. I start week 3 of flower tomorrow :) I love your pics

  16. Thank Papa, your too kind :yummy:. I wish I had a better camera, its just some random cheap Sony I've had over the years.

is this your first CFL grow papa? or have you done one before?

  17. Does not look to bad for your first grow, definitely need to add alot more wattage and lumens. I recommend looking on craigslist for a used HPS/MH 1000 watt light setup they can be found for as cheap as 150 bucks and you would be producing about 135,000 lumens and your yield will probably double or triple. Worth every penny and the power bill is about 60 bucks a 1000 watt during bloom

  18. ill start a thread soon probably by this weekend. my first grow is in my sig, but you probably want to compare to something in just about the same stage of flowering.

  19. I'm thinking im about 4 to5 day ahead of you, was curious as to how yours look under the HPS and around the same age.
