Hi guys im planning on starting a scrog grow from clones in a 4x4 tent with a 3x3 1" netting i have a 600w hps im not sure on the size of extractor fan but it has good airflow and has done me good with other grows i will be growing in a soil/coco mix using no nutes the soil has slow release fert and have already seen good results from it. anyway here are my questions... How many plants/how to arrange them for 4-6 weeks veg time when to trim leaves from bottom of plant when to stop pulling growth back through how close to have the light any help will be much appreciated thanks
When Scrogging the plant will be spread out wide. The purpose for scrogging is to pull light into the center of the plant. One big Sativa like a Maui or Blue Dream will take up the whole tent. Especially if you veg for up to six weeks. Tents are really for a more vertical growth. Trim all the lower leaves as soon as you like, once you have the plants woven through the netting anything below the netting won't get light; make it go away. Continue to pull the growth all the way through Veg. Once into flower leave her alone. Keep the lights as close as you can while maintainiing no more 78 degrees in the canopy. Grow on Brudda!
Everybody experiences different growth rates but if I was aiming for 4-5 weeks veg under a 3x3 screen with clones, I would use (2) 10 gal pots, maybe (3) 7 gal at the least. I'd bet that with good growth rates you could fill out a 3x3 screen with a single clone, a 20 gal pot, and 6 weeks veg. I would place the screen about 8-10" above the dirt, higher it goes the longer you veg. Everybody trains their plants differently, when I scrog I try to keep as much growth below the screen for as long as possible. I wait until the last week before the flip to let the budsites grow up through the screen, removing any shoots that won't make it to the canopy in time, as well as any leaves that are blocking my work. I continue training through the first couple weeks of 12/12 until they're done stretching. I find that in order to keep an even canopy, I have to play marionette with the shoots. Some of them will be taller than others, so I pull down on them while the screen holds them in position horizontally, and that allows the shorter branches to catch up. That's why I try to keep as much growth below the screen for as long as possible early on, makes this part a lot easier. This was a 7 gal pot filling out a 2x2 screen under a 250w, 6 weeks veg from seed. http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-grow-journals/1256704-not-sures-grow-vault.html ...you can see me tying down the plant before it even reaches the screen to encourage branching. If you let some main branches run up along the screen until they get fat, it'll be a lot harder to train later on and you'll end up with an uneven canopy. Don't get lazy with your training, go the extra mile.
Just out of curiosity what soil do you combine with the coir? I've been looking or a i wouldn't say organic more along the lines lazy nute fert or anything to mix with coir to get a good release of nutes. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I am doing a very similar grow myself. I'm currently vegging mine in a 4'x3' tent but have a 4x4 ready just waiting on my 600w HPS light. I have done countless ScrOGs before though. I just finished one that was under 2x 250w HPS lights, have a look here if you want to see it http://forum.grasscity.com/hydroponic-grow-journals/1298425-blue-cheese-dwc-scrog-2x-250w-hps.html I harvested 2 days ago and its currently drying. I like to use just the single plant but I have a separate veg tent that I can veg while its predecessor is flowering so veg times aren't an issue for me. The more plants you have, the less veg time it takes to fill the screen. I LST the plant first, spreading the canopy out by tying branches down. I have tried various height screens but I think about a foot is good. Tall enough to get your hands through to do any maintenance that needs doing without taking up too much valuable height. I keep all growth under the screen until I can't see down through anymore and there are plenty of growing tips throughout the area. I then switch to flowering and let all the growing tips come up together. Depending on how much height you have available you may want to keep growth under the screen for the first few days or even a week. But when you have just one plant and a 4'x3' canopy with over 100 tips stretching isn't much of an issue. Once the initial stretch has done it's thing (about 3 weeks) you can start to see what branches are going to do well and what isn't. I cut all branches off that I believe won't keep up with the canopy and strip all growing tips from below the screen. I keep as many leaves as I can though because at this point they are still working hard. Leaves under the screen will drop naturally when they aren't pulling their own weight I will have to bend a few branches to the side if they are reaching above the main canopy. I use soft garden ties for this. Here's a few photos of my last one...
How early do you start lst'ing your plants? Also how early if you didn't plan on using scrog method on them.
It sorta depends on the height you have. I top the tips a few times first to get a decent amount of leaders. LST comes in to play when it's needed really, opening the canopy so more of the plant is exposed to the light. This comes in to play when the plant is a foot or so tall, but it can vary a lot really.
@[member="GoldGrower"] That's a beautiful scrog net, is that just pvc pipes and elbow joints? What's the material you used for your netting?
My 6 plants are about 6-8in. Have about 4-5 complete leaf sets. Good time to fim? And also after the start Growing there 4 or whatever I get shoots can I tie those down to the outside edges 180degrees behind them an just let more colas grow inside would that give my overall yield a good impact?
Thanks man, it's pvc pipe, 4 elbows, 8 tee joints and 4 tank connectors to fix it to the lid of my reservoir. The actual screen itself is a 2' x 3' plastic coated steel mesh with 2" spaces. I bought that from a garden centre, I think it was made for animal caging. I don't see the point of fimming myself I prefer to just Top The Tips. Pinch out the main leader to get 2, then pinch out those once 2 nodes have grown out to get 4, then 8, 16 and so on. It doesn't really matter how you get it to fill out, as long as it fills out
