  1. Hello Everyone. I am getting ready to take the plunge into organic growing. I have a few grows under my belt growing in coco and using bottled nutrients and I wanted my next grow to be totally organic. I feel a little overwhelmed on this side to be honest lol so I figured I would reach out to see whats everyones go to organic method for a first time organic grower. Im thinking of starting with a bag of coast of main soil which seems to be recommended by alot of people in my area. How do you guys survive on this side without the bottled nutes ? Im used to growing in coco but I would like to get away from that and maybe experiment with some living soil. Any pointers greatly appreciated.

  2. 1/3 peat, 1/3 worm castings and 1/3 aeration (perlite, pumice).
The following additions are per cubic feet (7 1/2 gallons):
    - 1-cup dolomite lime.
    Amendments:
    - 1 1/2 - 2 cups Tomato tone or comparable dry amendment (Dr. Earth line is great).
    - 1 cup kelp meal.
    Mineralization:
    - 4 cups Azomite or rock dust (Granite dust is super cheap and you can get it at Lowe’s).

Cook for 2 to 3 weeks. This a water only recipe and this what I use.
Alternately, instead of a organic all purpose fertilizer, you can use 2-cups kelp meal, 1 cup alfalfa meal, 1 cup bone meal and 1 cup crab meal. Mix thoroughly and use no more than 2 1/2 to 3 cups per cubic foot of soil. Any leftovers can be use to top dress during flower.

  4. How is THIS side complicated? Over here it's just about getting to know your plants. Once you understand them and their needs you're good to go! You mix your media, you plant stuff in it, you water it, and watch it grow :)

You can start with a quality bagged soil, like coast of maine, or start with a basic mix from one of these threads and just adjust based on your plants and environment. There's always different variables so what works for one person may not work for you, but read and plant stuff. Watch it grow. Come here and post along the way with any updates or questions you may have. Always happy to chime in!

  5. I started with a bale of wheat straw shredded by chickens scratching through it and adding there droppings (manure). I cleaned this out and turned it into living soil with lots of vegetation growing in it. I added dolomitic limestone, horticultural gypsum, kelp, lots of peat moss and about a third 0-1/4” pumice. I turned and watered this mix once a week until I couldn’t recognize straw anymore and it smelled like good sweet soil.

between crops I re-enrich it with more chicken litter for Nitrogen, phosphate rock, bone meal and Indonesian bat guano for Phosphorus and greensand, Langbeinite and Potash for Potasium.

I have used this for at least a dozen grows without needing to feed during the grow. Water only. Good results.
