Not sure if i'm ready to do a grow journal yet but I will keep updating this thread from now on. I've had some problems earlier on, which i've figured out to be nutes to early and ph way outta wack. This is 2 weeks since the problems have cleared, and they \re looking awesome. >> LST >>Scrog Once again, any comments appreciated as we are new!
Looking good, one tip if you start getting into problems with all that thread, is to use paper clips and bend them like "forks" and gently use it to push down an area and keep it down.
Here are a couple new pictures of our babies and we've noticed that the old growth is worsening, and the tips on the trainwreck are burning a little bit. We use nutes but very very little and we also use vinegar to control our ph. Were doing a DWC and are having a problem keeping the ph at at least 5.5 but it keeps raising, making us have to check the ph 2-3 time a day, is there anyway to keep control on this? Suggestions welcome and if anyone can tell me whats going on with my plants that would be fantastic!!!
hmm 5.5 ph sounds a bit low right? im new (to growing, not smoking lol) but ive been reading a boatload of threads, and i think i remember 6 to 6.5 being the best? i used miracle gro on my new pc grow, and for that optimal ph is 7. can anyone verify?
You ideally want your PH around 5.8. What kind of nutes are you using? Are you using tap water? that might account for the swings. Where does the PH eventually settle once it's been in the res for a while?
MY PLANTS ARE DYING ALL OF A SUDDEN!!!! Please help! I have been checking the PH and everything and I don't know whats going on. I NEED HELP FAST!!!
Gonna need a lot more info from you to help. What nutes are you using? Are you using tap/ro/distilled water? What is the PH of the water before adding anything? You said they were light dosage, how much are you using per gallon of h2o? Do you let the mixed nutes sit for an hour or so to stabilize ph before feeding? What is the PH of the nute solution you're feeding them? What is the PH after a few hours? The following day? How long does it take for the PH to stop rising and what level does it stop at? Have you looked very closely (30x loupe or microscope) at the tops and undersides of the leaves, and stems for pests? Are you only using CFL's, and how many watts? How far away are the lights from the top of the plants? Where is the res water level in relation to the bottom of the pots? Do you have healthy looking roots going into the water? How often do you change the water in your res? What are your temps and humidity in the box? What is the temp of the water in the res? Lots of info, but it will go a LONG way to helping you diagnose this problem. I would definitely recommend getting some better PH down. Phosphoric acid is usually what most use, and it does a much better job of maintaining a steady PH. Vinegar is good in a pinch, but can lead to swings where PH rises closer to the starting PH of your water. GH makes a semi-cheap PH kit, appox 15 bucks last I checked. Comes with a good test kit, too, with vial and drops.
What nutes are you using? Are you using tap/ro/distilled water? Tap What is the PH of the water before adding anything? Neutral You said they were light dosage, how much are you using per gallon of h2o? Were using full strength now so 4ml/Litre Do you let the mixed nutes sit for an hour or so to stabilize ph before feeding? We let it sit about half an hour the last time What is the PH of the nute solution you're feeding them?6.0 What is the PH after a few hours? The following day? 6.0 How long does it take for the PH to stop rising and what level does it stop at?We just keep a constant eye on it and just started using ph down Have you looked very closely (30x loupe or microscope) at the tops and undersides of the leaves, and stems for pests? No, is not pests for sure Are you only using CFL's, and how many watts? No? Were using a 150 watt HPS and cfl for a total of 20000 lumens. How far away are the lights from the top of the plants?A foot Where is the res water level in relation to the bottom of the pots?An inch or two up the cup Do you have healthy looking roots going into the water? No thats our problem, no roots have poked through but out plants were looking amazing and now they are not. How often do you change the water in your res?Once a week What are your temps and humidity in the box?Between 28 degrees celcius and 36 degrees celcius, low humidity What is the temp of the water in the res?Prob 4 or 5 degrees colder
PH isn't too bad. Has the PH down helped? Might want to drop it slightly to make sure that all nutrients can be taken up by the plant efficiently. I don't think this is going to solve the overall problem, but it couldn't hurt. So correct me if I'm wrong, the level of the res water is 2 inches above the cup bottoms, and you have some roots poking out? If i'm understanding this correctly, it may be part of your problem. Dropping the res level to about an inch below the pot, so the roots get some splashes from the bubbles, but aren't fully submerged, will give them some much needed o2. This will spur growth and cause them to continue growing downward towards the water surface. Also, what do the bottoms of your cups look like? Can you take any pictures to see how many holes you have, and what size they are? This pic looks like a K (potassium) def, but i'm not 100% on that. Hopefully some others will chime in.
This is the best I can do for a pic. You can only see one hole but there are 4 on each side like it and then a bunch at the bottom. I just took out a good portion of the water and noticed the difference( not in my plants yet) but the bubbles are better and the ph is at a good 5.5-5.8 right now.
Hopefully it will help. You want as many holes in the bottom of the container as you can get without having your medium fall through. Lots of o2 = lots of roots and lots of happy growth.
I lost my healthiest plant and may lose my other and I cant have that. Im going to keep posting pics of anything else that may happen. I need some advice and some help
If I could help ya man, I would. Have you narrowd it down yet?? I'm growing in dirt because of stuff like what your going thru. Soory to hear about your luck man.
Yes. Very high. You really need to get those cups open so roots will grow into the res. They're suffocating.
