First time in 10 years

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by ZeusMan, May 1, 2019.

  1. This is my first grow in 10 years and at least from my perspective its going very well. Including my estimated power consumption to the end of the grow this operation cost $1,200.00 plus water, some scrap lumber, spare pots, irrigation parts and time. Nutes and supplies are listed at the end.

I am currently at 12/12+32 days so it’s tough accurately estimate yield but If I had to guess I’d say about 18oz (6 a piece from the large plants and 3 apiece from the smaller plants) I am using a Vivosun 600w HPS/MH light and 300 actual watts of mix matched cheap LEDS in a 4x4 space with four plants grown from seed.

I used LST and situational prudent pruning. The banana Kush asked for a lot more pruning than the Black Berry Kush. Two plants on the left side are two weeks younger than the two on the right. These plants are nice and stinky, which was my main gripe with dispensary buds, no stank. These ladies have about another month to go. Lets hope I don’t mess anything up.

Without further ado, meet the girls:

Entering 12/12 (end of March). 5 plants enter, only 4 plants survive.

4/20 12/12+22 days (because why not)

End of April 12/12+32 days. Gotta love that smell.

  5. Starting to see good amount of milk trichomes on black berry kush bush. Thinking it has about another 2 weeks to go. Banana Kush has 3+ weeks left.

  6. How does one delete an unintended post here?

  7. Forecast for week 7, frosty! Feed down to ~0.9, mostly PK. Still waiting for that nice amber tint.

Thinking about doing a live resin blast with this frosty trim, any tips?

All strung up at ~50% RH, 70 F

I was antsy to have a taste of this stinky lady, so I hit her with a blast from the past

I used a 50 micron filter followed by two coffee filters on a 12 in blast tube packed very tightly with a some frost trim frozen for 40 hrs, blasted both cans (840 ml)

After 2 hrs in a 155 F water bath some nice oil started to Form.

Still good things take time, 3hrs later (5hrs total) in the bath and all the bubbles finally popped. Still has the terpy stank.

After some scraping I’m left with a dispensary 1/8 of some fine live resin. No vac pump needed.

  11. Ya, this was my first ever live resin blast, when I quiet growing last time BHO was still brand new and being sold in all the dispensaries as alcohol hash b/c bho wasnt even legal to sell in Cali. Wax didnt exists. Got to say I'd never ever blast anything other than live resin again. Not only do you get to smoke while your crop dries the resin is terpy awesomeness. Pack the tube tight AF, blast with good quality butane, purge long and slow and there is no need for a vac chamber. So good.

  12. When you say live, you mean as in not dried?

  13. Correct. I trimmed it and crammed it right into the blast tube and froze it for 2 days, then blasted.

  15. The first "dry bud" of the grow. Nice and sticky!

The taste is a solid B+, lovely for an uncured popcorn nug. High is energetic, as expected for my single early harvest plant.

  16. Cannabis flowers sure have beautiful architecture. I think this Bannana Kush is finally ready do be chopped tomorrow. It has some awesome looking false seed pods extending from the calyx.

  17. Good setup, now its time to start upgrading the lights!

  18. I agree, I’m going to use the sun next go round

  19. As my harvest hangs and I sit here with some sweet Banana Kush hash on top of some cured blackberry kush, I have to say I'm pleased with the results of this cycle. Im glad I went cheap on the equipment. A decade ago, I relied on HID lights and indoor coco set ups. I considered investing in quality LEDs or ceramic HID prior to this cycle and I'm very pleased I didn't. A great deal of the current information on cannabis cultivation was written/recoded between 1990 and the present. During this time most good cannabis was grown indoors. Indoor cannabis does give control over environmental factors, light and limits environmental damage to trichomes.

However, the primary benefit of indoor cultivation was that it was harder for law enforcement to locate and relatively safe from DEA fly overs. This isn't a factor anymore. At heart, I enjoy farming more than engineering and nothing man made can compete with the full spectrum lumens of the sun.

Indoor cultivation certainly has its advantages and there is a plethora of information available on indoor growing. I would not try to convince anyone to quit indoor growing. I would however recommend any person starting growing or coming back to growing stay clear of high priced equipment. A 4 plant grow room shouldn't cost more than $1,500 these days. That is pretty awesome since a single analog ballast used to set me back $800. The modern cheap Chinese equipment is better than anything I had 10 years ago and will give you a good sense of the capabilities of a growing technique.
