First time grower, seedling leaf discoloration

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Yadeen, Apr 20, 2020.

  1. Hey guys! First post here, but this forum has been an amazing resource thus far. First time grower, indoors under LED, in a 3x3 with two HLG 100 V2s. Currently growing in Pro-mix with some added perlite, have watered with only distilled, no nutes yet, although when I potted them initially I moistened the medium with 1/2 strength radix rooting solution. (I have a 4x4 tent and a 550 light coming in, just not here yet) So far there have been very few bumps in the road, the seeds sprouted 4/9/20 and are now starting their third set of leaves. A few days ago I noticed some white patches on the leaves, and I wasn't sure what it was. My first two guesses were WPM and spider mites. After reevaluating my setup, I noticed I only had an exhaust fan, and nothing enduring flow of air in the tent, so I've added a small low-powered fan in the corner, just enough to get the girls wiggling, nothing intense. Before installing the fan though, I sprayed with a neem oil solution at 0.9%. Rookie mistake here, I didn't look into it before using, and sprayed the plants while the lights were on. I believe that to be the cause of the rust-looking spots, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm currently monitoring the white spots to make sure they don't spread or anything, but I'm holding off on more neem, don't want to harm the plants. I have attached some images of the seedlings in question, both the white spots and the rust spots. Is there anything you're seeing that I'm not? Thanks in advance!

  2. I'll let other more experienced folks chime in, but I think the neem is your problem. In the future, just water it in. Great product and organic.

  3. Thanks! Yeah I see it should be done once a week, so at the very soonest I'm still off the neem for 7 days... I'll check on the issues and see if the white spots spread

  4. Why U use neem oil? You find a spider mite?
I'd check the PH of the run off water, 6.5 minimum for dirt.

  5. I didn't see one, but I saw the white patches and thought it could only be either WPM or spider mites. Both of which can be controlled by Neem oil. I've read that promix is soil-less so it should pH closer to hydro between 5.8-6.5, last I checked it looked to be about 6.2.

  6. those are burns spray lights off. good to use kneam oil i wouldnt use it during budding. id also get some more purlite or vermic in the soil next time. as for whote patches did u get any water one the leafs at all could be that usually the mites look like white speckles i find but u never no.

  7. Yeah, I have a much more aerated organic soil cooking on the back deck. When I do their final transplant it'll be into that. I didn't think about water, does that leave white spots? They wipe off fairly easily so that would make sense. I also have new seeds coming, so I'll be using more aerated soil for those. I'm considering adding quarter strength grow nutes in my next feeding because Promix has nothing to offer. Would that be too soon? They'll likely be around 2 and a half weeks old by then.

  8. at two weeks id start at 250 ppm to 450 max . and yea most likly water residue. or mildew whats ur temps and humidity at. that soil mix will be much better also use lots of water like 1 litre min per watering just water every three days intead of 2 as an example. u want the roots to grow out espescially when u transplant. alsonif u moistwn the soil it much easier to work with.

  9. Temps are around 24-26C, Humidity was hovering 60 but for some reason I can't it over 45 now, I've tried messing with it but I can't figure out why it's low. I have a humidifier in there set to 60%, but it's not doing much. I've been watering as it dries, so every 5-7, should I increase frequency? Is there a way to calculate ppm? I don't have a meter

  10. by going off the manufacture ppm level ml per litre ex 1600ppm with 20ml of nuits per litre water then u divide and multiply by that number approximate. and depends on how much water ur using every five to 7 days if thats what u mean seams slow for absorbtion temps are good what the ph should be 6.5 runoff ph so if u water and its goes through soil out bottom or take equal parts soil water and test ph and its at 5.5 take the wazer ur watering with adjust ph to 7.5 so when it goes through soil its at 6.5 ph for best absorbtion in soil growing.

  11. I've been giving them about half a liter with each watering, should I ramp that up? I don't have much of a reference, as this is my first grow. They're all starting to sprout their third leaf sets, is that normal at about a week and a half in?

  12. yea id move to 1 litre min until bloom then u should be doing min 1.5 litre waterings

  13. yea they can be a little slower in the begining veg and end bloom.

  14. Oh ok then, I didn't know, I'm pure hydro until spring time and I set clones outside.
Here's a chart for the PH levels. 6.2 is a bit high for hydro, 5.8 being the target number.
