First time grower question... Plz help

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Bobbyweed123, Jan 26, 2014.

  1. Hey, so this is my first grow. I germinated my seed in a ziplock bag with paper towels in a warm and dark place. After like 2 days when the root was 1/4 inch long (the reason I didn't wait longer is bc my friend told me it's good enough...) I planted it straight into a 5 gallon bucket (with some marbles and a hole at the bottom of it). I planted it 1/2 inch into the soil, moistened the soil and put two Hydrospikes. It's been 4 days and I'm not seeing any sign of it sprouting... Where I am right now it usually a high of 65 but usually sunny, at nights it drops down to mid 40's... also the plant isn't directly in sun during the day.
So... How long do u think it might take for my plant to sprout?
Do u think it will even sprout in these conditions?
Should I try to move it to sun asap, or is it good for now?
(If not^) What stage is sun critical?
    Any tips/ advice?
    Thanks guys..!

well man it still could happen. usually takes about a week for me. but personally, ive had more luck planting the seed directly in the soil and keeping it really moist. and those temps do sound a little cool. so try to keep the plants as warm as possible (heating pad works well) also sun isnt important until your plant has leaves. happy growing

  3. So I looked at it today and it sprouted out of the ground a little less than a 1/4 of an inch into a curled "stem"...
Is that supposed to be how it's coming out?
And any advice on what to do now?
    Thanks

  4. How big should I expect one plant to be

  5. Looking good. Dont let it get too cold and avoid direct sunlight, gradually work up to it

  6. Someone said something about a heating pad before... Do u know what he's talking about?

  7.
You're passed that, dont worry about it.

  8. This is physically impossible to answer, especially without more information. But even with all the information, it's difficult to answer. What are your lights? Ventilation? Nutes? Any training (SCROG, LST, FIM, TOP, etc)? I could go on forever.

  9. Hey guys, so I go to check on my plant today and it's like this...
    http://tinypic.com/r/ivlrn4/8
I put some moist dirt under the part that's laying down to pick it up a little.
Has anyone had this problem before? And did I do the right thing?

  10. So my plant has been growing for around 2 months and it's been growing slow but (looked) healthy, 1 problem with it was that the stem isn't strong so it's been slanting over, so i put some toothpicks to hold it till it can hold itself. This past week it rained a lot and when I checked on it, it looked dead. All the top leafs have holes or brown dots on them, but all the bottom leafs still look healthy. The plant actually still smells like bud I just want to know if there is still a chance it will grow bud. And what I should do

    This is it

    Looking pretty good dude.

From the looks of it your growing outdoor?
They can get big outside, like a large budlia bush! Although that depends if your keeping it in the pot or will be planting replanting it in your back yard.

The weak stem is normally from a lack of wind, if you can put it somewhere that gets a bit of a draught now and then it will fix itself!
If not just gentally shake the pot for 30 secs in a morning (just enough for the plant to sway about a little) after a week or so that should strngthen up the main stem!

You may want to wait for a more veteran opinion but it looks ready for some direct sunlight now!

These plants tend to like dry soil, so be careful with not over watering. Allow the soil to dry out fully before watering (from the pic looks like your soil is very wet!)

If your night time temps dropping below 68F (20C) you could prob do with fetching it inside overnight, if thats not possible wrap up the pot in some bubble wrap to keep the roots a bit warmer! When they get too cool at night it slows them down an unbeleivable amount!
Ive had problems with nightime temps for a couple of weeks before and a 60 day old plant has looked like a 15 day seedling because of it!

    EDIT:
After a closer inspection at your most recent pics,

It does look suspiciously like over watering, drooping looking leaves....

It also looks like something has been chewing on it, perhaps a bug of some sort?
Hard to tell from the pic but there is a leaf at the bottom looking a bit sad with pale blotches on it, again could be pest or deficiency related but hard to tell from the pic cos of the light and angle of the leaf!

Again, I'm no expert and less so with outdoor, so id wait for a second opinion from a veteran before heading to the store for anything.

Would be worth posting in sick plants asking how its looking!
Get a few more & better looking pics posted as well. Someone there will be able to help you way better than i can!

  12. Hey guys! Update!! So basically my plant is doing great & it already started flowering (pic of cola so far)

But I was wondering if I should lollipop it. If I do, I would only cut the bottom two stems. What's your opinion? Do u think it's too late to lollipop?

  14. Hey dude, looking a bit bigger than the last pic i last saw of it!

As far as i can see its still looking a less than healthy, so the plant is already going to be quite stressed.
Cutting anything off it is going to really stress it at the best of times even if its in excellent health. If you were to start cutting leaves or branches off it you may tip it over the edge and it either have it turn hermaphradite or worst case, dying!

It would be best leaving it alone at this point and hope it perks up or just makes it to harvest time!

I still cant say for certain what appears to be wrong with it! It looks like its Has some Nitrogen deficiency and still looks like its being over watered! Although with it being outside may something else which im not familiar with!

Whats the temperatures and general weather been like the past few months?
Any cold spells below 10C at night,
    Has it been very hot,
Pick up the pot, does it feel either heavy or really light weight for its size? Light means its dry, heavy means its wet.
