First Time Grower looking for best LED setup for 5x5

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by Tzm, Apr 28, 2020.

  1. Pretty much wondering what the best LED for the buck is for a 5x5 apartment setup. Id want it to be able to run essentially off a power strip and not have to worry about overloading any sockets in a appt. Ive seen a few companys thrown around like spydr, Mars, and a few QBs from Alibaba. Wondering what are your guys recommendation for wattage required to effectively "try" to yield 2 lbs or so from a 5x5 using LED and scrog techniques probably with soil at first unless someone can really persuade me to just jump right into hydro. Ive seen recommended wattage around 800-1200 for a 5x5 being pretty efficient, how would that be achieved then for best results? 2 LED fixtures around 4-500 watts each? Thanks !

  2. 5x5, 25 sq ft. I’d say about 900-1000w of boards. More than two fixtures though. Preferably. I like diy for the money and ability to lay my lights out how I want, when I want. So having 1 or even two fixtures limits what I can do in terms of adjusting to plant height which is way easier than tryin to even out a canopy, I’ll tell you that. Don’t get me wrong, I still attempt to even it, but i currently have three indica leaning hybrids that aren’t half the size as the other 6. I just dropped one set of lights lower for that row and everything else has it’s own sets of lights. Me, I’d run 8 qb 96’s, 2 per 240w driver. You won’t lack for power, the 240w drivers are inexpensive, and you’ll be in track for your 2lb goal.

  3. You could also run them on a 1200w driver.

  4. have a link for those qb 96's you recommend? and you recommend 8 of them with 4 drivers?

  5. Both use Samsung LM301B diodes.

  6. also how do I see what watts is avail per qb ? I see a graph on the link u sent that shows different wattages, im assuming at different power pulls/intensity. What would I ideally want to run each one wattage wise so I can kind of determine how much per sqft I would be providing. Also someone else in another sub forumn recommended the SAME qb you did but only 4 of them instead of 8 which he says seems a bit underwhelming but could still easily even hit my weights, but I like your idea of going with 6-8 for that added light for higher potential yields of course! would running 6 be a option or is it mainly 4 or 8?

  7. QB96 Elite V2 Quantum Board

    64 high power white LED, 16 630nm Red LED and 16 660nm

Two different sizes of red which is nice but not a lot of power

  8. That was my dog @Popcorn on this forum. I saw the other post you made too. He wasn’t wrong. As you see from that chart on hlgs website, these lights can handle a wide watt range. Your goal was what, 1.5lbs? Popcorn made a suggestion to get there. I made a suggestion to outfit your tent to maximize potential. he suggested the hlg-320’s? Two of them?. They’ll run more than 320w. Even at 320w x 2 gives you ~640w and while I hate to offend anyone, 1g per watt is easy as pie. As for what wattage is available to your lights, take the driver, divide by the number of lights connected to the driver, there you go.

  9. You could run six. Running six I like the 320w drivers per two boards.

  10. 54 dollars for 96 leds vs 129 dollars for 648leds..

  11. my goal is technically around 2 lbs I smoke about 2 grams a day of hash and growing a hash strain I know I can atleast flower rosin for a 20% yield will net me enough concentrate to get to my next harvest without having to buy from outside sources anymore is essentially the plan. So atleast with what you and your boy have shown me I can go based off that for LED DIY and even build into more lights in the future if need be or just go full out full potential which I also like to do but well see how the finances fair! thanks again for all the info!

  12. which qb or light setup did you link for 129 with 648 leds cause none of them are below 200

  13. Do the heat sinks for 648 cost that much more?
    What am I missing?

Seems like you are 400 leds short for the same price

  14. Damn, what country?
