Hello everyone, right so my seeds are germinating right now using the wet paper towel method, I will be planting them in small cups/pots (party size) and later on I will be planning to transplant them to 5 galon fabric pots. The medium will be Canna Terra Pro Plus soil. Just have a few noob questions: 1. Later in the grow when I transplant them to 5gal pots, do we fully fill the pot or do we fill it like 3/4 full? 2. Watering - Roughly know when and how often but how much water per watering in a 5 gal pot. Is it true I could even use as much as 2 litres per watering per pot? Sounds a lot tbh. 3. Another watering questions but now regarding the seedling/early veg in the 'party pots size cups', as the cups are so small and plant so young, do I just spray the top of soil with water, or how much water could I use? (worried I could put too much and drown it) 4. Can I use tap water? Or should I boil it and cool it before I water to get rid off chemicals? 5. Is it true that I shouldn't think about nutrients for at least the first 10-14 days as they are too young? 6. Will around 40-45 humidity be okay for the seedling/veg or is it too low? (I would need a humidifier to go higher than that) 7. When should I start giving them cal-mag, similar time as I start all the nutrients? 8. Can I water them when lights are on? Or should I do it when they are about to go off in the dark? Or when? 9. Any tips to avoid killing them in their young days haha? 10. I hope I will avoid stretching so as soon as they pop through the soil should I just put the light around about 30inch? (Mars hydro tsw2000 - 310 actual Watts) Thanks everyone. I know most of them questions were previously answered on other posts as I did read through lots. But there was a huge difference in answers in most of them.
If using tap you shouldnt need calmag. Yes it's true they don't need nutes to start with. Wait for the bottom leaves to start going yellow or fading, that's the cue to start feeding. 2-4weeks in depending on how well it's going. Best tips for success.... Put seed in. Get it wet. Then leave it the fuck alone. less is always best and keep shit simple for the win.
Thanks for the help. Could you just tell me how can I know how much to water? Is it until I see some run off water at the bottom? Just have no idea if we are talking 200-300ml or 2-3 litres
Water however much it takes to saturate all the soil. Once you see runoff out the bottom its good. Feel how heavy it is when its fully watered, it will be a lot lighter when it needs water again. Top 1-2 inches will be dry. Overwatering is the most common mistake so take it slow, let it dry out. 5gal pots will only need watered every few days until the plant gets big. Eventually you will be watering every day. Same goes for the solo cup. 40-45 humidity should be okay but seedlings like a little bit more. It helps with their root formation. Don't worry about it too much but keep in mind. You can water lights on, lights off, doesn't make a huge difference. I do hear that spraying the leaves right when lights come on is beneficial. Spraying underneath the leaves as well, kinda like how you'd find dew on morning leaves. I cant vouch for the science behind it but it would make sense. That light will be plenty, you shouldn't experience any stretching. Seedlings are fine under a strong enough curly cfl for the first week and don't stretch. GL homie
With watering its to each there own. I use 2.2gal air pots and water .5 to 1 gal a day during flower. Veg is about a gal per watering. Every 2 to 3 days or when it feels light picking up the pot by one edge. I've found with cloth pots indoors and good air flow the pots themselves seem to suck the soil dry. Now this may just be me but I stopped using them inside. Had too many problems with them and how my Temps and RH change during the day. I have seen as low as 27% rh up to over 80% in 24 hours. Thjs made it really difficult to judge watering. In the end I water until medium is soaked and there is noticeable runoff.
