UPDATE: My curiosity was too strong, I gently disturbed the jiffy pellet...they ALL popped!! Lil taproots are there but I definitely had then too deep and I think the heat mat was over kill but, who knows they might have died right after sprout. I'll check again in a couple days Hey guys, This is my first time growing....anything lol. I have my 3x3 tent all set up with a Meizhi 900, gonna be running 4 autos in there for my first run. I'll be using Gaia dry amendments (70/30 blend of all purpose and bloom to start). Basically my question is how long do seeds take to pop? I've got mine in a jiffy greenhouse on a heat mat BUT I'm worried because I used distilled water to moisten the jiffy pellets. Was I supposed to use tap water? I put the seeds in on Thursday morning around 6am, it's now Saturday at 9am and I see nothing. I've also opened it a couple times out of curiosity lol would that affect the seeds?
I've never planted directly into Jiffy pods. When I put seeds in a damp paper towel they normally push the tap root within 36 hours then I plant in soil and it takes another 24-48 hours to break the soil
Distilled water is fine. Lose the heat mat - seeds germinate perfectly at room temperature with no cover on them. I use rapid rooters and just set them in a drawer. It usually takes 3-4 days for viable seeds to sprout on average. Stop checking on them and good luck. 10 for 10 in 4 days.
Thanks man I really thought the heat mat was overkill but, I had somebody recommend it strongly...I'll lose it because I don't really like it to be honest
Heat and a dome is a bad combo - it promotes bad pathogens to grow. You can't beat 78 degrees and fresh air. Just make sure you keep them moist - not saturated - moist. Good luck.
Speak for yourself bro! Lol I'm 7 for 7 as of today! Cup of water for 12hrs then wet paper towel till 1/2 inch tap root or so then straight into Promix/Coco/etc.
