First sign of starting to stretch?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by matt69x, May 4, 2020.

  1. First grow in my life. They were all planted in soil about 36 hours ago. They are starting to stretch aren't they? I had the 310W LED pretty high at 31 inches. Now I lowered it to 25 inches. Did I do the right thing or should I put it back up a bit? Its lights off in about 3 hours anyway.

And one of them pictures shows one of them with the shell still there, will it drop by itself or does she need some help?

    Thanks

  2. Should pop off itself mate but if its still on tomorrow just pinch it off with tweezers or use 2 tooth pics to pry it apart.
Seedlings dont need or want much light so id stick with the 30inches. If they start stretching (currently fine) then lower the light a couple inches per day.
Post a link to the light too, someone most likely be able to tell you the exact height but need to see the specs first.

The manual says seedlings 24-30 inches so quite a big range to be honest.

Should I worry about putting the led too low? Or is it quite unlikely to burn seedlings with led?

  4. Also just one last question. I still have domes over them. Because RH with lights on is at 35-40 and 50-55 with lights off.

Will they be okay without domes in 35-40RH? (I haven't got a humidifier yet)

  5. If you lower that light, go slow. It will fry your seedlings. If they stretch to much at this stage you can bury them deeper when you up-pot. Until then a tooth pick to help them stand straight, if needed. Yes keep the dome on for a while longer. The only way a seedling can take in water is through the air until a root system has been developed. Even a tray of water under the dome will help raise the humidity. High 60's to 70's would be optimum.

  6. I only lowered it from 31 to 28 inches. The manual recommends 24-30 for seedlings so I guess i will just leave it at 28 for now and see how it goes.

Yeah I checked humidity under dome it was 72%. But temp was pretty high as well. About 84-86 under dome. But tent temp about 78-80. (All of that^ with lights on).

So seedling stage is usually about a week from planting isn't it? So roughly I should keep the dome on for a week?

  7. Sounds about right. Once they have started good growth of fan leaves you are good to go.
