first post :) Q. about getting a medi-card

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by superkev000, Sep 17, 2009.

  1. hi, i just recently turned 18, i live in Los Angeles, CA, and have a few questions about getting a medical marijuana card.

For the past two years i have suffered with chronic morning nausea along with IBS. In turn the constant nausea has caused me to gain some eating disorders and lose a lot of weight because i cannot manage to eat in the morning until the afternoon. I have many medical records for gastro-intestinal problems i have had (and still have) and can easily obtain many test records i have ranging from colonoscopys all the way to endoscopys.

For some time now, i have been using marijuana to relieve symptoms of nausuea (which has proven to be very efficient at doing so in the past, also it helps make me hungry.) i started smoking as a young teenager (yes, just one of those bud smoker kidz lol) but soon after i started getting gastrointestinal problems, it became a medicinal need rather than a pleasurable desire. i truly believe that medical marijuana can help me and i think that it's about time i actually become "legal" and take advantage of living in California.

from here i just do not know exactly where i need to go and what i need to do/get in order to be applicable for a medi-card.

could anyone with experience getting a medical card help me out? i would greatly appreciate it :) <recommended doctors that anyone has associated with would be even better>

  2. Ive also been looking into getting my card, i have a messed up back, always hurts but ive never bothered to see a doc about it.. i also have had anxiety issues in the past which i do have medical records for..maryjane helps soooo much more/better than paxil...anyways to answer your question as far as i know from looking around on gc...Get your med records, look up a doc that will recommend maryjane, go see him with your records, if he sees fit to make the recomendation you pay him 150 bucks ( varies on doc) bam go straight to dispensary although im pretty sure you gotta pay another fee for your actual card..hope i helped some.

  3. The above is correct, except that unless you want the state issud ID card, which is entirely voluntary, there is nothing further you have to do once you see the Recommending Doctor.

  4. One important thing that has been left out, a lot of the co-ops and dispensaries will not serve you unless you are 21 or over, even if you do have a valid recommendation.

Some will, so you aren't completely out of luck, but be sure to ask before you go to a new place.

  5. thanks for the replies everyone (these forums are awesome some far :) ) ok, so i gotta just get my medical records then. The only other concern i still had was, i have heard of many "unlegit" doctors and such. How do i know where to go/look to find a legitimate doctor?

  6. Try the ASA website - or the CA Norml site. Alternately you can ask current patients about their doctors. If you can find a Medical Marijuana Magazine such as West Coast Leaf they have ads too.
