First Organic / No-Till Run - 4'x4' - 20 gallon pots

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by ZTS, May 30, 2019.

  1. Hi community!

In the past I've grown 'hempy' style with Blue Planet Nutrients (Organic line) and although I had great yields, my quality and plant health suffered some. So last run I practiced using Dr. Earth's organics in 3 gallon pots and even though my yield suffered, I absolutely loved the taste and terp profile in comparison.

So I decided to double down on growing organically and educated myself on No-till, Korean natural farming techniques, and building living soils. Although there's still so much to learn, I'm eager to get started so here's where I'm at:

I have 4X 20 gallon smart pots started at the moment. I use a 4x4 tent along with a 2x2. My lights are DIY Quantum Boards.

Two of them are using KIS Organics 'just water' living soil mix (along with peat, perlite and hydroton rocks, worm castings (enriched with kelp and rock dust), and a little Malibu's best compost.
One is coco based because I wanted to use what I already had around the house. With this one I doubled up on the Dr Earth's nutrient mix (both flower and regular) and let it sit for almost a month. I then added rock dust, some rye grains inoculated with P.E. (wasn't going to use that jar and figured it would just be mushroom compost), and a touch of bat guano. This also has the worm castings and a mixture of perlite and pumice.
The last pot I made is already using Dr. Earth's nutrient mixes, but I'm only using peat again instead of coco, and only hydroton rocks since that's all I had. This has been cooking for almost three weeks now. Of course I also mixed in compost and worm castings (around 25%, just like the previous).

The first three pots have a layer of compost on top, then a layer of straw and wood chips. There's a mixture of cover crop in each one but i've been cutting them down and adding to the top dress.

I sprinked gro kashi and grounded up malted barely on top of each pot. Then dusted some more rock dust over everything and watered in well.

So far so good. I planted a Clementine Cookies, a Sour Slime Star, a Pineapple Chunk pheno, and a Clementine cookies X Tropic Lightning. All are showing beautiful green growth.

I bought a blumat system but haven't set it up yet as I just finished moving the 4th pot in my tent.

My only issue is fungus gnats. They are everywhere and the nemotodes I bought did nothing to solve the problem. I recently bought more nemotodes as well as mosquito dunks

My plan is to use Hydrogen Peroxide in my water and use it to kill the larvae, then when the dunks arrive I will switch to that, and lastly i'll add the nemotodes and re-add microbial life.

So far am I on the right track, guys?
