Hello! I will eventually start a grow journal but for now I'm just going to post what I'm hoping to accomplish and what tools I'm going to use. Insights and criticisms are welcome and encouraged. So my wife has Ok'd me to do two plants outside this summer as long as they stay smaller. We live in the Willamette valley microclimate(Portland). Here is what I've come up with. 2 nirvana seeds Northern Lights Feminized. (Northern Lights for size and smell) start on April 24th inside. Move outside May 15th after hardening off. (Recommended tomato outdoor transplant, plus the later date will help keep the plants smaller) 2 - 10 Gallon Smart pots Black Gold Natural and Organic Soil Planning on trying an organic tomato fertilizer that costco is carrying (Can always change later if I have issues) Watering with Hose water Pests- I know my garden is already full of Aphids so I will be planning around that. (I shook a hundred off a rose bush last night) I plan on using companion plants and maybe adding ladybugs if I still have problems. Chems will be a last resort. Companion Plants will be planted in a raised bed garden right next to my 2 plants - Peppermint, Mums, Dill, Chamomile, Basil, Coriander. I plan on topping and LSTing to keep them smaller. Goals - 1 LB total Does this all seem reasonable?
No. Your wife has "Ok'd" something something?? The first strain you need to grow is "Northern Testicles"! Be kind. Perfect your craft. Give more than you take. We are family.
Srsly though. Research plants that pot pests hate... unless you already have. Frankly I'd be just as excited as getting Dill and mums to take... but I'm on the east coast. Be kind. Perfect your craft. Give more than you take. We are family.
As far as advice...dude, get yourself some quality ferts made for cannabis. You're in Portland for god's sake. It's not the most expensive part of growing weed and you don't necessarily need a lot of it. Forget the costco tomato poison and get yourself some quality organic, plant and poop based ferts. Growing weed is a long process, might as well do it right. You'll appreciate it when you're smoking it.
I am, but me wife's a botanist so I kinda lucked out, mate! Just takin the piss, though. Besta luck to groregon! Be kind. Perfect your craft. Give more than you take. We are family.
A guy is right, but Tom nutes are a solid back up. Did my 1st outdoor grow with something similar. Now that I'm inside I'm seeing the difference with nutes formulated for herb. The smart pots are right on. I still do an outdoor grow each year and I use the same. NL is a great strain... hearty and forgiving with an outstanding yield. Have some wrapping up in 3 wks. Can't wait. Keep us posted on your progress and feel free to ask any questions! Be kind. Perfect your craft. Give more than you take. We are family.
Thanks for the responses guys. Being married sometimes sucks! I have to actually look out and do what's best for my family ;-) A Guy - Tomato Poison! I didn't know it was that big of deal =P I get what you are saying though and will definitely look at the ferts a little closer to see what it really is. But if it's a quality fertilizer I will likely still be going with it. Expensive doesn't always mean best and I'm on a super tight budget so if I can save 20 bucks here I definitely will be. (Don't worry, you can say I told you so later when it starts falling apart, i give you first dibs) Part of the reason I'm doing this grow is to see how little I can get away with. The companion garden was already planned I just change a couple plants around. If I can get away with cheap costco nutes, tap water and the Sun I will be feeling pretty good at the end of the grow. I have a big indoor grow going already that will be done right about the time this one starts so I should have plenty of bud to last me if this fails. The PNW sun is pretty amazing in the summer time, last year I had HUGE tomatoes with no nutes and tap water only. I'm optimistic =) Edit: Here is the fertilizer in question Organic & Natural Tomato & Vegetable Food
If your not gonna buy a good brand of nutes made for weed then at least use miracle grow its cheap and will work if that's all you have I've used it with decent results the stuff your looking at is weak ain't worth using IMO Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
the bigger the container/hole the bigger the plant because you need big roots for big buds you won't get a lb from 2 ten gl pots maybe from 30 gals. you need sun and plants that start to flower real early like mid Aug because of good ol Oregon sunshine er rain. aphids are easy just spray them off and kill every ant you see.

I would buy some more seeds. Relying on only 2 seeds for your grow year sounds risky to me. Have some for back-up if your 2 encounter problems.
Hey, just wanted to say I'm planning on doing something similar not too far from you in Corvallis and I was wondering if I could post some pics of my site and if anyone could tell me if id get enough sun and do ya think the weather will be a rainy bitch or not?
Hey guys I started a blog about my grow here: http://frugaloutdoorcannabis.blogspot.com/ I plan on educating up front and then turning it into a grow log after I plant the seeds. Should be a great summer! Can't wait to get started.
Hey man i to live in oregon and i would recommend that you get yourself a couple 25 gallon smart pot and fill her up with fox farms ocean forest. I also use organicare pure veg & bloom the stuff is real cheap and very effective plus it's omri listed & granulated good stuff no phing. & no matter what your wife or gf will be mad about you growing at some point it's just the way it is. Good luck this summer man hope everything goes well. Ps I harvested on the 18th of Oct due to mould last year
Yeah, the Ocean Forest is good stuff, I like to add more perlite and worm castings to it to pump up the aeration and micro-beasties even more. Then add amendments to follow.. individually or in the form of mixed granulated fert.
Nice sounds promising. I'm just going to add a big bag of perlite & the above mentioned organicare or dr earth to the ground i don't want to spend a shit ton on outdoor I'll save the ocean Forrest for the indoors.
