so is it possible to grow with a normal light bulb? just starting off here and not really looking to drop 100's into the lights and am just looking for a small winter hobby. I can keep them buy the window so they can get some sun. I have done this before and got the plants about 18" but i left for a vacation and couldnt find anyone to water them and they died. So i know they will grow but will they flower under these conditions?
Spend something like 20$ on 2 cfl's. Do a little reading and figure out which spectrums. Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Yep, if by normal you mean fluorescent. Incandescent will yield nothing, 17 lumens per watt incandescent vs 65-70 lumens per watt for cfl. That's why a 24w cfl is "equivalent to" a 100w incandescent, 24w x 70 = 1,680 lumens ...100w x 17 = 1700 lumens If you wanted to yield an ounce, you'd have to run 400w of incandescent. In comparison, a 400w HID will yield 10X-12X or more. If you ran 100w of incandescent I'd expect nothing solid, just fluffy trim. But you could always run that for a few points of iso hash or something.
Basically, you don't need to go spending 100's on lights when Walmart pretty much carries everything you need when it comes to BASIC lighting. I grew a nice plant and harvested off of two 100w flourecent t8 bulbs. They cost me $10 and another $10 for the holder/ballast and if you ever get more money to spend you just need to go look for stronger bulbs to put into the holder. Not to mention theres CFL bulbs, (Swirly kind) higher the wattage the better, theyre really cheap also!
