new here, just recently started my first grow thanks to all the info that grasscity has to offer. about the grow: 2.5' by 1.5' cooler with white interior inside a cabinet. will probably build a grow box to go in the closet once i transplant into pots lighting: (currently) 4, 23w cfl's (1600 lumens each) plus I have a uv nail lamp (4, 9w uv 2 pronged cfl's, not sure any other specs) that I don't currently have on but I turn it on a couple hours a day. no fans yet but planning to build a grow box (mini fridge, wood cabinet or rubbermaid) plants: started germinating 5 bagseed (kush and mids assortment mixed,) 3 survived. currently in miracle grow soil (need to change that) Currently on day 19 from planting the germinated seeds on 18/6 light cycle, not sure when i should switch to 12/12 (or how to for that matter) advice, help, or tips would be great. stay high
day 4 seedlings http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090307&d=1358709671 day 10(ish) http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090308&d=1358709671 day 14 plant 1 http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090310&d=1358709671 plant 2 http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090311&d=1358709671 plant 3 http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090309&d=1358709671 Day 18 Plant 1 (got some burns from the lights being too close??) http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090314&d=1358709671 Plant 2 http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090312&d=1358709671 Plant 3 (looking like an indica?? ) http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090313&d=1358709671 heres another pic of P1. are these burns from the light being too close? or something else? http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090315&d=1358709671
wow dude that soil is really frikkin wet, better get them some flippers! You only need to water seedlings a very minute amount and make sure those cups have some drainage holes on the bottom. Overwatering using MG soil also presents another problem of over ferting. There are little bubbles of fertilizer in MG soil (time released nutes) and everytime you water them they break open and feed your plants which will cause burning at such a young age.
each cup has gravel at the bottom and 2 holes on each cup. i have the cups in a container with a couple inches of water. did this in case i forget to water and someone told me this would help remove the excess fertilizers from the soil if you change it regularly? its MG garden soil, knew it wasnt tht good but its all i had atm. is the container with water that has the cups in it aiding or helping reduce the excess amount of nutes in the soil? and were the burns from lighting or the nutes?
just went to the store and got some peat moss, perlite, 3 diff colored pots and a couple socket splitters. so with this come a couple more questions... 1. what is the best way to mix perlite and peat moss (ratio) and do i need food/nutrients for growing in this mix? 2. should i get any different cfl bulbs? was told 6500k for veg and 2700k for flowering but have also seen grows with red and blue cfls??
3:1 peat to perlite is what I use. You can use a mixed spectrum ratio of 3:1 (6500k:2700k) bulbs for veg and switch it for flower. Whoever told you to keep your seedlings in standing water is an idiot, im sorry if that offends you. Marijuana is not a swamp plant. Te discoloration could be a couple things. Nute burn usually happens from the tips in. That UV lamp could be doing it, I would get rid of that ASAP because it doesnt do anything really.
If you can get a small T5 as opposed to those CFL's that would be good. I used CFL's once and my tops got really burnt and scorched, you're also in a small space and CFL's get hot as the devils dick! Subbed!
none taken i thought it was weird to begin with. the burns happened on the day i didnt check on my plants so i know it wasnt the uv light because it wasnt on (cfl's are on a timer, uv light is manual) but my cfl's were almost touching plant 1 because i forgot to raise the lights. so for the 3:1 peat/perlite mix what type of pot does it need? and do i have to water it differently or with any additives? i think im gonna stick to cfls, have a ton of the 23w and less w cfls, but was thinking about getting a couple 50-60 watt bulbs when i make a grow box
planning to transplant after the 6hrs of darkness. getting 2 or 3 computer fans tomorrow and making a carbon filter right now.
sorry i dont know how to format these pics and stuff. ill get the hang of it eventually. anyway i transplanted them into the new pots, 2 in 3:1 peat/perlite, and the third in 100% perlite day 19(ish) from being put in solo cups. plant 1 (injured) in the green pot, and plant 2 is in the brown pot. Plant 3 in black pot (100% perlite) http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1091542&stc=1&d=1358798882 Plant 1 (burnt a bit ) http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1091543&stc=1&d=1358798882 Plant 2 http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1091545&stc=1&d=1358798882 Plant 3 (thinking it is indica dominant ) http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1091544&stc=1&d=1358798882 added a 2700k 23w cfl to my lighting, so now i have 4 23w "daylight" bulb and 1 23w 2700k bulb. removed the uv light
day 20(ish) update raised the lights a bit, plant 1 is looking like its healing a bit, http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1092125&stc=1&d=1358836211 it looks like the leaves on plant 2 are curling hotdog style (idk how else to put it haha) is this a ph problem? underwatering maybe? http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1092126&stc=1&d=1358836211 plant 3 lookin good. http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1092127&stc=1&d=1358836211 stay high
Idk what temp and humidity are yet. still have to get a couple fans, some nutrients and a ph test kit/pen what type of temp and humidity controller should I get? don't want to spend too much because I'm keeping it small. should I lst these? scrog? or should I not do anything?
Determining whether to Scrog or Tie down depends on what kind of space you're working with. I say just LST/tie down. Scrog takes some preparation and its different with genetics knowing when to install the screen and all
I found a metal cabinet that is 22.5" wide, 19" deep and 22" tall. hoping it fits in my closet so I can add a lock and make it a grow cabinet. has a shelf welded or attached somehow along all the edges but I'm working on prying it off.
well after 5 hours of prying, pulling, cutting and hammering i finally got the shelf out of the cabinet. fuck welding lol. also drilled a hole in the doors for a lock. waiting on the fans and temp/humidity monitor to come in the mail before i move them to their new home. http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1093145&stc=1&d=1358920311 still do NOT have any nutrients as the nearest hydro store is almost an hour away. planning to take the trip sometime this week watered plants (16oz split btwn the 3. is this enough or too much?) plant 1 is still recovering, http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1093146&d=1358920298 plant 2 looking happy and the leaves are uncurled http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1093147&stc=1&d=1358920588 plant 3 looks good, drooping a little. prob over watered it. http://forum.grasscity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1093148&stc=1&d=1358920588 tokin on some diamond og tonight
Fine looking box brother! About watering- I water usually once a week and feed variably depending on schedule time. When the pots are light and easy to pick up due to lack of water in the pot that's when I water. When I lift the pot and I can feel some weight I wait a while. Also stick your finger by the notches on your pointer to check if the soil is moist. Cannabis prefers to be drained out well then fed. At least the strains I have grown love that feeding cycle. Make em a little thirsty but not too much then give em what they want. Looks like a killer box brother. Good luck
