first lil hydro project - wouldbe mother with a lil curling on the leafs

  1. hi all,

glad i found this site, and that it continues to avade those that would rather have it shut down!

i started my lil hydro project a couple of months ago, kitted out the back bedroom completely sealed, light proofed with air intake/outtake and a side room about 3' x 3.5' x 8' (d,w,h) which is for the mother(s) and at the mo seedlings/cuttings

i've only got one survivor of the original 8 super skunk seeds (from sensi seeds) due to a few cock-ups along the way but she (i hope it's a she anyway) is looking pretty healthy. however most of the leafs are slightly curled up at the edges and slightly dark in areas. (see pics)

anyhow, i check the ph daily and have to keep lowering it coz it keeps on rising, so i try and maintain a ph of around 6. i'm using a hydro grow nutrient at about 1/4 strength now and it's in what's called an aquafarm. but basically it's in clay pebbles with a constant supply of water/nutrient that is pumped up from the main tank.

the light is a 4-tube brightwing - fluorescent, 220 whatts producing 19,200 lumens and is posistioned about 55cm from the top of the 26cm plant.

temps stay around 75 - 80 f with a humidity of around 40% on average.

    errm what else might help?

  2. set up looks good. if that light is anything like a flouroscent, you could benefit by getting it a lot closer to your plant. if it doesn't throw a lot of heat you could probably get it to within a couple of inches.

  3. nice one smokinjoe, i did have the light about 20cm from the top of the plant but wasn't sure if that contributed to the curling of the leafs so raised it again. it does generate some heat but as to how much i couldn't say.

i was told that if you can feel the heat when your hand is just above the plant top it's to close?

  4. Hey, your grow is lookin nice so far  I like to shoot for 5.8 as a general rule of thumb. If you're shooting for a pH of 6 and it's climbing rapidly that could possibly attribute to the curling of the leaves. It's worth a shot in any event. :D

How long as your plant been in veg?

  5. You said that you have the water going constantly.
I usually put the pump on a timer to water for 25min 6 times a day to let the roots get some time to get air.

  6. thanks, i didn't have any idea of how long to keep the water pumping and as it was constantly flowing over the roots, thought it would be ok. i'll stick it on a timer.

this is a closeup of the leaves as well...

  7. Ive got the Sensi Super Skunk and I am also getting the exact same leaf curling as you, did you find out the cause?

My pH and PPM look fine.
