I am sure that there are plenty of weed heads all over NYC, but I think that this store, which only opened two days ago, will mostly sell to tourists, newbies, or do-gooders. It's a non-profit organization for AIDS charities that has thrift shops and other ways to make money. There are so many unlicensed stores selling it in NYC, and some pretty damn good quality, that there's no reason to pay inflated prices at the legal places. The licensed weed lobby is putting out warnings that illegal cannabis products are dangerous. I have been using weed on and off for a very long time, since the days when it was mostly imported from other countries and except for some (legal) coffee shop weed in Amsterdam, ALL that I've ever had was illicit, and I've never had a single problem.

  4. One of the Bob Dylan books makes GV like the Haight of the east but it was 50+ years ago when he stayed there. Are they not threatening to crack heads in the underground markets like all good little drug warriors do? I’m glad to hear that a charity is able to get a cut and as I’ve said so often with this topic, how can the place that got Wall Street running not get this one? Pot money smells just as good y’all. So I’ve heard.

  5. Weed has been present in NYC since long before Bob Dylan got there, they had good stuff from Panama and Mexican, Black Gungi (which I had once) back to the 1930s and probably earlier if you knew the right people.

The politicians decided several years ago that the only people that would be licensed to sell weed were those who had been arrested and jailed in NYC in the past or members of their families. And, everything has to be from NYS - the growing, the seeds, the people, etc. This means that a person who has weed experience, and the money to open a shop, but was not busted in New York State, is not allowed to open up a store here, legally. It takes money to open a business, and since it is still a federal crime, the people that want to open a store cannot get a bank loan. The Democrats have ruined it for themselves. There are growers upstate who had their crops all ready to sell, but nobody to supply it to, legally, and it went stale. We're talking about a LOT of weed, going bad, due to Hochul and her cronies who know nothing about the weed business.

  6. This just reminds me of the SNL skit from when they had some decrim thing to pass in NY and it showed this N.Y. Street with people flooding out of buildings celebrating and this kid gets popped for smoking pot in public and they all disappear back into the buildings. C’mon NY, y’all gave us KISS so give us an example of a smooth transition to legal pot. Show us that you wanted the best and you got it......

  8. I'd wager because its a multi-billion dollar industry that due to public pressure, became legal in a lot of places faster than the "establishment" politicians and their big donors could pre-position themselves to suck most of the wealth out of this new industry.

I'd guess NY is not unlike many other states that decriminalized possession, but are yet to have a full rec sale market, even though they could have easily set up one by now.

I'd wager one of the reasons for that is to give the wealthy donors time to invest in canna companies before lobbying the state reps so that the laws can be designed to benefit them the most (as opposed to an actual small growing operation locally run and owned in NY or any other state).

I have served as a member of various regulatory boards for professions in VA (the places that give you a contractor's license, barber's license, real estate license etc for that state.

I'm sure most on here already know this, but how hard is it to set up regs that are fair to all?

    1. Establish what sections of the industry the state wants to regulate and the fees (various levels of grower, dispensaries, wholesaler or distributor licenses)
    2. Set the requirements for individuals or businesses to obtain said licenses
    3. Set the standards by which each licenses entity must operate (stuff like requiring a certain % of your crop is tested by a 3rd part lab, no weed businesses allowed in certain zoning, or within a certain distance from a school, etc.)
    4. Set the penalties for non-compliance
    5. Set up an arbitration system for licensed people who have a dispute with the regulatory agency over interpretation on the laws.
    6. Introduce new legislation as necessary to address discovered shortcomings (there will always be problems in an endeavor as large as state wide rec sales) or to repeal sections of the law that may prove problematic in actual practice.

This is what I have been pushing to my state reps for years, never got a satisfactory answer yet to why it wouldn't work, and the above is the most logical reasoning I've come to yet on why I never get a legit answer from my reps.

  9. 1 Weed store and a jillion weed trucks, not to mention wash sq park. If you can't find weed near NYC, look harder. What has the gov't taken over that actually got better?

Today in NYC, the weed trucks are gone, after their brief presence in 2022, but there are lots of non-licensed dedicated weed stores and 10's of thousands of regular stores such as newsstands which also carry weed, in all of the boroughs, not to mention delivery services, etc. So far, for NYC, there is only one official licensed permanant weed store and one "popup" which is temporary. I have no intention of ever paying taxes on weed, so I will boycott the official store(s).

  12. Dang man. You have stores, trucks, AND delivery but still want the illegal hassle. (The delivery just baffles me) I’m down here begging to pay for a license, ass whipping, or anything to get out from hiding my garden.
