Hey guys, so I recently landed my FIRST JOB at my local Vue cinema. YAY!!! and - whilst i'm generally chilled out and don't get anxious about stuff, I've found myself feeling increasing anxiety in the hours leading up to a shift. I had a 4 hour shift on Tuesday, and overall it was good. It was fun, confusing but left me feeling accomplished and ready for more. (I can't wait for steady money, seriously, ive been job searching since march man) Got my 2nd shift tomorrow, at 4pm for 7hrs. With breaks I finish at 2am. Gonna be long but I'm looking forward to it, cos I'm GENUINELY excited for it to all become second nature to me - the other staff seem so relaxed about it all, so that gives me confidence. I'm just scared of learning the tills because I swear I'm gonna fuck up a lot and piss off a lot of customers in the process. I KNOW you pick it up - but i always hate that transitional stage of learnign something where you're pretty shit. You're open to criticism and you're openly making errors and its just... very panicky for me. >.< One of the few situations i get panicky in, is one such as that. I get to see infinite free films which is awesome (unlimited would be a better term, but infinite is such a good word!) and, although its hard work, it genuinely does seem pretty cool as first jobs go..... but yeah. I do NOT wanna get as anxious for tomorrow's shift as I was for my first. .. I mean, it did go fine but I didnt have to do tills, and it was only 4 hours. This is 7 (but in total im gonna be there from 4 til 2, ... 10 hours. ) So any advice or conversation, high or not, about any aspect of it, would be REALLY COOL. I need to change my mindset or something so I have confidence even whilst fucking up, and take it all in my stride and focus all my mental energy on just being polite and quickly learning the ropes of everything so it becomes second nature and I have money and weed and everything's amazing! tl;dr - I have a new job, and although its cool, i'm nervous. Please give me advice and chat.
Ahahaha I remember being nervous at my first job. Dude, it's a job. And an easy one. Relax and have fun! Just get your shit done quickly and cleanly, that's all it takes. And don't worry, working a cash register is a piece of cake. The hardest part is clearing paper jams or getting the manager to void some shit
haha. thanks probably seems a long time ago for you that you were in this position XD Sounds stupid but like, if i'm on the "concessions" area which has all the food but also is the main place people go to for tickets, ... I can be asked for 2 cokes, 2 popcorn , nachos, AND tickets and its that juggling that I'm kinda anxious of, amongst other things. I know it'll be alright once I'm used to it. also I've been suffering horribly with my asthma the last couple of days (i usually have zero problem with it for months), coughing my LUNGS OUT. worst part is, im basically fine in the day and at night it fucks me. And my shift is tomorrow night. And if I do get put at the food bit, like, i just cant be coughing like that. But my friend who has worked there 2 years said, 'just ask not to be put with food', she said thats absolutely fine and they'll understand - because we've already been told you have to wash your hands if you cough, when youre on food. So..... yeah, like, it just makes sense for them. So with that in mind, i feel much less anxious. but still. has anyone else worked in a cinema with interesting/helpful/hilarious stories? XD
You will get used to it my friend. I remember my first job.. I was nervous for about a week but then I was like, this shit too easy. But yeah, it takes time to get use to it. You'll be iight
If you start at 4 and you're working a 7 hour shift, you end at 11. Not 2. And normally you only get multiple breaks if you're a minor. You should get off at 11...I don't know a place that doesn't count breaks in how long you work...
dude why pick up on that of all things to poke holes in? I'm high but il try to explain this right. Yeah, I thought that too. But you're wrong thanks for asking. See, I had a 7 hour shift the other day 4-12. next to the shift, it says '7hrs'. THIS shift says "4-cls" meaning 4-closingtime which is 2. so 4-2am. It stil says 7 hours next to it. So, it's just more breaks but you working overall for more of the day. My friend had a long shift yesterday and had 2 breaks. Fits my theory. Its an unimportant detail in the conversation really. thanks though
