This is my first indoor grow. I've grown a few other times outdoors and helped with an indoor set up before. I just have a few concerns as to the color and condition of my plant. Notice the stem has a section that is red. I don't know why this is happening. Also.. the very frist set of leaves on the bottom have yellow spots and feel very dry. Again.. notice the stem has a red section.. wtf? Otherwise does it look healthy to anyone? Here's a pic of the top. It's been growing very slowly. I have it under 6 GE Soft White Spiral 42W Bulbs each put out about 2700 lumens and if you aren't familiar with these bulbs they have a 150W equivalent. Basically I'm wondering if my plant looks alright or if there are any changes I need to make. I'm using promix soil and it says it feeds up to 9 months so I wasn't planning on feeding it. I water it every 2-3 days and mist it daily. Also does anyone know when I should start pruning? I want this to be a shorter plant since I'm growing in a closet ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hey Bro. It looks a little over watered. I would just spray the top of the soil to keep it moist for the first couple of weeks. I would focus around the stalk and come out to a diameter about an inch past the leaf span. A drop of SuperThrive in the spray bottle is good to jumpstart young seedlings into root development. The purple stem could be genetic or maybe a pH issue. Are you adjusting your water pH? Surround that plant with your lights. Get them in real close. Peace
I dunno how to adjust the pH. And as for overwatering I haven't been watering them much.. just misting mostly. I honestly think the soil is too rich for sucha young plant. It feeds for 9 months and I put this plant in this soil at a very young age.
The redness usually goes away on its own, or has no affect on the plant. At least in my experience. Also the stem looks elongated so I suggest lowering the lights or raising the pot up closer to the light. When lights such as CFL's have an equivalent value - e.g. 42w is the equivalent of a 150w. You should only count it as a 42watt light, not a 150watt. The leaves look a little droopy, might be an issue with the pH or over/underwatering. Oh, and what happened to the cotyledons? It's day 23 of vegging for my plants and they still have theirs. Not sure if it matters or not though. Other than that there's no serious health problems and if these little things are taken care of I'm sure it'll grow to be a nice big healthy plant.
I clipped the cotyledons about a week ago. I didn't see why they should be there. Do you know when I should start pruning? I really wanna get rid of the very first set of leaves since they are very brownish yellow.
