Started my first indoor grow about 4 days ago putting bag seed from cheaper dro I had acquired over the past 2 years or so. Got about 12 seeds that sunk to the bottom of a Solo cup after two days, placed them in a wet paper towel inside a ziploc bag and closed most of the way. The next day I planted 9 seeds in a single planter and sat outside in the sun and last night moved inside under a 100w fluro. Today went and got a 400w HPS, light hood, planters, bamboo rods, ballist, and threw them into a 3x2x5(lxwxh) clothing cabinet I have almost finished converting into a grow box. Inside the box have an air intake in the bottom corner. (No fan just filters for the air) A large kitchen fan with in, out, and exchange modes, 3 speed settings and climate control. Reflective tape on the walls, humidty/temperature montior with high and low memory, timer...I think that's about it. Bear with me, need to put finishing touches on the cabinet, and also hang the light so I can get this thing going. Hope you like, thanks for looking. Also need a few tips, looking for something to hang the light that can be adjusted, also how the hell do you get the humidity percentage up, I know it's because the light needs hung, but it's 108 degrees and 16% humidity..eeek turned the light off until its hung. Wonder whats inside..
*Update* Got the light hung on something I can adjust, more reflective tape, organic soil. Gonna finish up the cab hopefully this week and I'll post the final result. Can see I have alot of floor space to put these when they turn into little beauties.
Sorry forget to get more recent pictures. The ballast was moved out yesterday and moved in the flower pots I intend on using so the soil has time to warm up. I'd like to be in them by the 23rd at most, a week from today. brooin- looks mighty tasty *edit* also moved light up about another foot and a half for MH bulb.
Any tips for getting humidity up? Have a cup of water in the environment along with a small fan now, the temperature is staying down but the humidity doesn't want to come up. The only thing I can think of is I haven't vented the light to the outside yet, could this really keep my humidity clear down at 20%?
Just a safety tip: Power bar on the ground is a no-no. Considering you are watering right next to the power bar it's a good idea to mount it on the wall somewhere or raise it up.
Thanks! Moved it over in the corner, I'm watering outside the box currently though, covering it up to spray soil pots and try to add humidity.
Here are the pictures as I promised, sorry I couldn't get them earlier, been very busy today. 2nd day of vegging under MH, 4th total. Um....as you can see nothing really to say lol. She's a glowing.. Floor shot Last two to show light height.
Shouldn't I have seen a poke by today? (day 7) I've had the environment controlled better for two days by adding another fan and humidifier. Been 75-79f and ~45 RH
Looks like you have alot of potential here. When popping seeds, you don't need to have any light. Warm, moist soil and they will pop right up. Personally, I don't bother with the paper towel method. I put the seeds in a germination mix in solo cups, then put a ziploc bag over the cup. Spraying water in the bags a couple times a day will help keep the humidity up. Works good for me. Good luck, man.
Thanks man, happy growing. Figure I should post a little update, not MIA just in the moving process, could screw this crop up, may just need to make some night missions when moving the babes. Ditched the old setup didnt like the idea of having all of them in one when it came to transplanting time, plus started those with a different soil. Ditched em in the trash and started fresh. With organic soil, pots I plan on keeping them in whole grow, filtered water at environment temperature. And oh wow been a long time, finished the cabinent, added humidifier, and an additional fan to strengthen stems. On to los fotos..its a p&s..sorry. These 4 pics of veg day 5, the other planters where obviously added later. Veg day 7 Need some help with the one, as you can tell its leafs are drooping, does it seem healthy? Growth is normal, just confuses me.
I know the pic quality isn't the greatest and it's far from bud porn.....but anyone got anything to say? Rather worried bout droopster, although still look healthy todoay. Bump it up ~
Is the fan blowing directly on it? Could be overwatering, not enough O2 getting to the roots, or a number of other things... How long has she been drooping like that?
The fan was blowing on it but I move them around in a circle pattern everyday to prevent one from hogging what could be the "prized spot"..lol. I added more water yesterday to see if it was underwatering/overwatering, seems to be the same. Um I can't remember exactly how long, from looking at pictures looks as if from day 3-4 from sprout it happened, but they are staying very green and leafs feel the same as the other larger one I have atm. So beats me... I'll take a new pic of the environment and some Day 8 photos...Thanks for stopping in.
How's it going man, just stopped by to say high on your thread, saw you posted on my friend's page and thought I'd drop by...I was curious as to how that kitchen fan was working out, and what does it do exactly? Does it have 2 seperate fans in there, one for in and one for out? Pretty cool Idea if it works for your temps in the box...I was gonna say that just a little length of cheap chain and some of those screw-in hooks will solve your lighting adjustment problem, and will make the light far more secure anyways. I'm curious to see how things work out for you though. I've got some seeds from some "popcorn" bud that we got a while back, not quite straight up dank, but very few seeds, and a little crystal on it, I've been considering growing them out soon maybe, but I've got some bagseed plants growing out right now that are quickly steering me away from growing out anything I don't order. I like your cabinet though. I'd like to go that route eventually and be able to completey close my stuff up too. Well, good luck man, see you around the City, peace!
hey bro! just droppin by cuz you knocked on ma door The girls are lookin pretty good so far... wissh I had been here earlier cuz the soil looks a bit heavy for mj. some added perlite/vermiculite would def help lighten up that soil giving it more pore space and increased drainage and aeration. jusst be extra careful not to overwater since the soils gunna hold onto it for longer. I'd guess the drooping is from overwatering... tryin and let the soil dry out a bit before watering again... the plaants have very lil, simple roots systems still and dont need alotta water. Best of luck bro! Ill be pullin up a chair
nice lookin start man.i was readin you taped the inside of the cab?you might wanna line it with mylar or paint it white for the light to reflect more.those emegency blankets you find at wal mart will work to.just a suggestion.i gotta do the same thing to,i put white trash bags in mine lol just to get started.im tunin in man good luck
Thanks for stoppin in, appreciate it. Well the fan used to be used in my room in the window to suck smoke out. It does have different settings but I use it on full blast, outwards, on fulltime mode. Did get a chain before I started these ones, not sure if any of the pics show it, but pretty sure there should be a glipse of it and also the fan for an idea of what it is. As for how well it does, I run a 400w MH in glassed hood that is not vented so heats into cab, also have a humidifier in there. A very small fan about 2 foot from the floor to blow heat up, usually door is cracked to keep it extra cool. And this runs at 75 degrees and 45 rh, which is pretty good for the light venting itself into the cab. Happy tokin'
