First Indoor Grow - Gorilla Girl and White Widow - T5 and 1000w HPS

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by EdgeGrow, Jul 14, 2018.

  1. Haha! I saw you post in another journal about amending soil with perlite and knew I needed to do something about mine before the transplant.
I hate to throw a bummer into my journal but it's my journal so here. I found out my 16 year old diabetic cat, Anubis, had a tumor in her mouth. Thought it was an abscess until I brought her back when the antibiotic shot didn't work. I had to put her down and bury her today. She helped me get through some of the darkest days of my life and made it to the brightest days of my life. I love her so much and I will miss her terribly but I'm glad that she came along for the ride.

  3. Time to get back to it! I transplanted the largest Gorilla Girl and it did not go smoothly at all. First the soil was too dry and second the roots had not yet filled in enough to form a strong ball. Poop. At least I'm learning along the way. Experience is the greatest teacher.

  5. Oh yeah. I gave her two quarts of water and there was a wee bit of run off so I know she got saturated. She's already perked up this morning so I'm guessing she wasn't shocked much at all!

I'm extremely impressed with the Gorilla Girl genetics so far. She's already developing a faint stink as well.

They're growing strong except for the White Widow that was my first transplant.

Even the mutant lady's secondary growth is starting to explode. She does have a funky chunky set of leaves between the two nodes trying to grow horribly wrong. I'm not sure if it's worth keeping this girl alive for any reason other than novelty.

The Gorilla Girl I transplanted is a goddamn champion. She's acting like nothing happened and is powering up to the light quickly.

Overall I'm very happy with their progress but I dont want to skimp during flower so I broke down and pieced together a new light for my flower room. I ordered a 1000 watt Quantum digital ballast and a new carbon filter because the one I have is 5 years old and the plants are already giving off a delicious skunky aroma. Everything will be here next week so I'll have a fun weekend putting everything together. I can't wait to finish off the rooms and seal everything up. I love this hobby.

  8. Pretty soon my flower room will be all set. Just waiting on the hood and fan at this point. I'm going on a business trip for a few days and am wondering if I should transplant the rest I to larger pots and give them all a big drink before I leave.

    New gear.

I'll have to update my thread title since I'm upgrading to 1000w. Got a good deal on Quantum digital ballast around 130 on Amazon.

They're getting big enough to transplant I would say.

  10. Haha nice! Thanks for stopping by, Koncept! Three weeks or so until my daughter is born!

I'm gonna be out of town for a few days so the plants will get watered before I leave and transplanted into 5 gallon fabric pots this weekend. My hood and fan will be delivered while I'm away so I'll be chomping at the bit to get some gardening done.

    Happy growing!

  13. I saw you switched to CMH and I just learned about them recently. I'll have to do some research. How's the spectrum on those? Is it good for both veg and flower?

  14. The 315s are great little lights. I have one I ran for a few years. Used it as the veg lamp til the girls got into their final homes, then threw a 600 hps in with it. Seemed to work pretty well for me. After seeing some QBs in action (buddy had a few 96s running 200w in a 3x3 iirc), I picked up 4 288 v2s w/ a hlg600. That will all get set up tonight or tomorrow when the girls go into their 30 gal no till forever homes. Looking forward to ditching all the bottles!

I was battling between transplanting tonight or transplanting this weekend and made the executive decision to do the thing later rather than sooner. The reason being is that the last two transplants did not go well because the roots had not established quite enough. I noticed that the soil at the bottom of my plastic pots has been almost damp for a few days which tells me the drainage is not sufficient and I should be more patient with them to give them time to suck up all the good stuff.

The fabric pots are drying out more quickly which tells me I have my drainage right. They were dry so I gave them a quart of water each. I cant afford RO right now so I'm just keeping an eye on the ppm and ph. So far the water gets to 7.3 after sitting out for 24 hours.

Here are some detail shots of the girls and the mutant in all their glory.

    Day 20 veg

    White Widow:
    20180730_214045.jpg 20180730_214050.jpg 20180730_214058.jpg 20180730_214106.jpg 20180730_214112.jpg 20180730_214117.jpg

Even the runt in the 5 gallon bag is starting to pick up steam, I can tell.

    Gorilla Girl:
    20180730_214126.jpg 20180730_214138.jpg 20180730_214145.jpg 20180730_214200.jpg 20180730_214206.jpg 20180730_214215.jpg

The differences in genetics are starting to show. The Gorilla Girls have more bushy growth and the White Widows seem to veg slower. Within each strain I can see different phenotypes showing. One White Widow is starting to stretch while the other is staying stocky but getting denser. Things are finally starting to get interesting here.

    More new gear.

  19. So I had the chance to install my new 1000w HPS and fan this morning. I'm itching to get back to transplant into 5 gallon pots!

  20. Exactly why i like to plant in original pot. I have had that happen a few times. Saved them, but it is just so sketchy. Worry for a week
