Hi all. Well I've finally decided to start my first grow after being a forum lurker for the past few weeks. My set up is a 0.8 x 0.8 x 1.6m tent. I'm currently using a 250w cfl. A friend is lending me another cfl,hps and led but I haven't decided which one to use long term yet. Just seeing how the temps etc settle down. I'm growing 3 x blue cheese. I will be growing in 3 gallon pots using canna pro soil. Here are my first few pictures. Any help advice greatly appreciated Germinated the seeds using wet tissue between 2 plates and they all opened up after 36 hrs Then put them in little solo cup size pots This is them now on day 4 2 have opened just waiting on the last. Currently have my lights on 24/0 not really sure why but seems to be going ok so far Hope you enjoy my grow Ivean Sent from my SM-G900F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Your soil looks more like a compost mixture than what we normally use to grow. These plants need a very light and arid soil for good drainage as they don't like their roots to be wet all the time. That composted soil will almost act like a sponge and hold water. I would go ahead and let it stay where it is, but be very careful about watering too much. You should not put anymore water in those cups until you see the plant start to really pick up and grow and it's had time to root in...which will take a few days. Once it is larger than the cup it's in (wider/taller), that usually means is slightly root bound or at least the root ball is solid enough for it to be transplanted into another container. If you'll go up only a size or so and not go huge with the up pot, it takes it less time to root in and get back to going again....but the same thing with the water. These plants grow best if you allow them to dry almost out before giving them more water. But you need to put about 40% perlite into that soil you're growing in right now or use a different soil, but unless you're using a bona fide formulated grow soil, you're going to need to amend it with perlite heavily. You also need to know that even thought it might have said organic on the label, most of these soils contain lots of slow release fertilizers and it's risky giving nutes on top of that for fear of frying your plants. Go to the new grower threads and read some of the "sticky's" posted there for new growers. There are a few basics that everybody should know before they start, but few bother to learn. LOL But you're looking good so far. Just don't drown them, give them good light and let them do their thing. You need to pH the water you're using to a range of 6.3 to 6.7 for the happiest healthiest plant. Watering out of range will lock up the roots of your plants, so if you're not doing that, you need to figure all that out. But the plants do like their water when it's right. LOL Good luck. Hope everything works out well for you. TWW
Hi thanks for the reply. I'm using canna terra seed mix as soil. I've followed the instructions but I agree it does look a little compacted. I'll see what I can do thanks again Sent from my SM-G900F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Still only 2 seedlings so far think I've lost the 3rd. Fan currently on 15 mins then off 15 mins Playing with height of lamp atm. Trying to make sure plants don't stretch whilst keeping the temps down. How long should I keep the seedlings in a propergator before letting them free ?
