first grow

  1. first grow noob here, about 3-4 weeks into grow and i have a question.

    heres my baby.

now a friend of mine has told me i need to trim off those big bottom level leaves so the newer ones in the shade of them can get some light.

he said they would die off anyway and it helps the plant not waste energy on those leaves.

this true or not? should i trim?

also any way to tell gender on this baby yet? it was a rando bag seed of mine.

  2. Looks much better than mine to be honest, what kind of soil and lighting are you using?

  3. Kinda right in a way but maybe try tieing the big fan leaf down to give the others light when plant reaches maturity it'll show pistils if female and little football clusters if male or you can force flower 12/12

  4. whats the strain?

  5. My soil mix is mg organic indoor potting soil, with some perlite and bone meal. And light is a 400 w mh conversion in a hps ballast. Im thinking im going to switching the hps light and 12/12 here in a two or three weeks.

I dunno the strain I have like 20-30 random seeds from my previous days of toking. But once I'm for sure this ones a female I'm going to start up some blue dreams and og kush I know are fem.

  7. so i kind of want to force flower on this baby now so i can get my blue dreams and og kush going. the main reason being, im not sure if this is female or male. how much do you think a plant this size would yield if even female?

also, same friend as before who suggested i trim it, which i decided not to says that my plant is female because of these

but those honestly just look like new leaf spurts. being my first grow im still not sure.

all i need to do to force flower from what i understand is my light from the mh to hps and the light cycle from 16/8 to 12/12 correct?

  8. Correct, and it looks female to me.

  9. let your plant grow then just before you flower it, just lollypop it, cut all the non productive branches below but go easy your first time you'll learn later which ones to trim and which not too as you go. If you want I can show you 3 plants im doing now that i lollypoped and topped and am currently in 2nd week of flower with using a scrog. If you want let me know I can post pics takes like 5 minutes.

    Id love to see.

    I'm still weary about trimming.

I read not to trim off leaves unless they are over half dead. That they still photosynthesize and aid in bigger bud growth.

This is true. Unless you do infact want to lolly pop you should be leaving your leafs on unless they are over 50% dead. People will argue this but a lot of people will argue back as well. Leafs are like big solar pannels and provide natural sugars and nutrients to the plant. If it has to go of course get rid of it. But don't start plucking to try and get light to penetrate it better. Look to fold and tuck to make more light spots. Rather then stress it or worse.

  12. So i germinated up some og kush and blue dreams since im positive my baby is female now and the og is doing perfect

    image-167237800.jpg

But my blue dreams is being kinda funky, it germmed normal but its sprouted like so

    image-770388529.jpg

??? Its white and not green. Was the seedling not deep enough in the soil? I used the same depth for it as i did the other two

  13. So my baby has been thriving over the past few weeks. Flowering everywhere, its beautiful. But i have ran into an issue. My lights as high as i can put it and shes about 6 inches away, shes been fine but i noticed a small brown spot on the top most flower so im guessing shes too close.

any suggestions on what i should do?

  14. here is what a lollypopped scrog looks like.

    BELOW THE SCREEN

All this area is about is moving energy and nutrients either up or down, this area neither uses much nor produces much energy for the plant, think of it as a highway between the farms in the roots and the cities in the bud's, I want as little energy as possible wasted in this zone.
    scrog 12-14 001.jpg

    ABOVE THE SCREEN

And this is the heart of the scrog this is where all the energy is taken in and used...The rest is merely in support of this..
