First Grow...

  1. So the first and only seed I had I planted on the 16th. Silly thing came up in half the time I expected (3-4 days), so I didn't notice it for 2 days with all the other plants on the shelf, and it got leggy. I put it 1 1/2" from 2700 lumen/6500K fluoro's, with a fan to strengthen the stem, and it hasn't stretched a bit more. Would you all advise burying it a bit? I figure on taking a cup like the one it's in, cutting it down and inverting it, then filling with soil. What do you think?

  2. Nothing wrong with burying them a little. Bury it up to the cotyledon (round) leaves.

Sometimes I even pushed them down sideways towards the edge of the pot (if I don't plan on transplanting that is).

  3. What is that plant in the background?

  4. Another question, regarding lights. I have CFL's that have only 1600 lumens, but they're so bright I can't even look at them. Compared to these 2700 lumen fluoro's, the CFL's seem intensely bright. Can't even look directly at them. Is this because we're dealing with total lumens, across the entire body of the light source? So the 2700 lumens of the tube is essentially divided out across the entire tube? Whereas the 1600 lumens of the CFL is concentrated?

  5. That's an African Violet. It'll only get partial exposure to the fluoro, in addition to the late afternoon dappled sunlight. Probably be good for it...
