First Grow - signs of trouble? (detailed)

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by quiddler, Aug 3, 2006.

  1. Ok this is my first grow. I am using bag seed of unknown origin and Nirvana Ak48 seeds for my first try. Below are the details and the pics, any help would be much appreciated.

    - I germed from seed.
    - They are 16 days old
    - I moved them from their started plaus and seedling tray 2 days ago to the Solo cups
    - The recieved Liquid Karma solution on day a move and nothing since
    - They are in Fox Farm organic soil mix
    - I have been feeding them with plain bottled water and Liquid Karma from Botaincare (1 tsp per gal) as recommended.
    - I am growing in a 5 x 5 foot area lined with Visqueen from top to bottom
    - I have an oscillating fan running 24/7 that doesn't blow directly on the seedlings
    - I have a HPS 600w light with a vented Hydrofarm hood (you can see this in the pic of the room)
    - The top of the tallest seedling is 28 inches away from the light source
    - I have a warm mist humidifer that cycles on and off all day keeping the humidity between 35 - 60 %
    - The temperature stays at around 77 F, with a spike no higher than 82 during the day and 72 at night

    PROBLEMS:
I have noticed two plant with brown decaying edges
Several plants where the leaves are pointing down
Several plants where the leaves are curling

  2. Transplant please and easy on the liquid Karma, one leaf shows signs of burn or did you man handle that leaf :)

but for sure transplant them right away, and when you do put most of the stem under ground as they have already stretched a bit.

  3. leafs droopy could be underwater or overwatering.

leafs curing inward as if they want to roll up like a joint is heat stress.

like i said transplant and get rid of your watering problem first and put some ventilation on them.

  4. well he will need to transplant but they dont need it right now, thats not whats causing his problem

quiddler check your damn threads man, iaint never seen something like this before..... i know you want your answer but i would think someone would check back for there answer

also he has posted this thread 3 times at 3 different sites
if he wanted help so damn bad he shoulda checked his threads i posted his answer now to all 3 threads :p

you look lik your overwatering your plants........ not unless you jsut watered them and they are droppy.....

with fox farm organic soil you shouildnt have to feed those plants rigt now,
not to mention do you know the ph of your soil?

looks like you got some buildup in the soil or ph issues
but you need to stop feeding them for now and or ease up on watering if your watering to much

how much and how often are you watering?
also if the tray is for overflow the soil will stay soaked when you water them all......
keeping the sol to moist which is why they are like that

but as for the browining thats either caused by ph or overfert

i think you are burning them from feeding liquid karma and plants being in fox farm

you need to test the ph though and make sure its normal get a ph test strips and test the run off that way or get a digital ph pen and calbrate it and test the ph

  5. isnt this what i already said??? and yes it looks like overwatering which is why i suggested he repot it, god only knows if those dixie cups have holes in the bottom.

  6. Dude I don't know where all the hate is coming from. Why can't I post them on different forums and reach as many experienced growers as I can? I figured I would get the most advice that way. I posted before I went to bed last night and logged in first thing this morning to check the answers and reply to the kind people that offered to help me. I appreciate your advice both here and at icmag and I am sorry you are po'd about the multiple postings.

  7. Yes the solo cups have several slits in the bottom for good drainage and I just put them in these cups 3 days ago so I don't think moving them now would be wise. Thanks for the information. Most advice I am getting is pointing to overwatering so I will not water til they are bone dry.

    Thanks again for your help

  8. Hey quiddler no h8 coming from me man! i just get fustrated when people dont respond back to a thread they made for help, i have seen it way to many times and i thought you did the same

no worries man i didnt mean any harm at all! you may post whatever you like anywhere.. i just thought since you made it at 3 different sites you woulda checked back sooner lol

dire, i posted to his thread 2 times before you did, all i did was repost what i typed in 2 of the other threads he made

chill man take a bowl, nothing wrong with concuring what someone said either..... would you feel better if i lied and said you was wrong :)

quiddler, dont let them get "bone dry" it makes it harder for plants to absorb nutrients in the soil whe nthe soil gets bone dry

water it when it gets light and the soil is nearly dry, its sorta moist but has a dry feeling after you take your hand off the dirt

take dirt in your hand a pinch, drop it back in, if your hands are slightly moist, you dont need to water
if you take the dirt and it feels moist and after you drop it your hands feel dry quickly you need to water

Hey quiddler, next time start them out in a seed starting mixture, FFOF is strong stuff and isnt very good for seedlings being so strong, after around 3 weeks of age you can put them into it, im sure the plants was stunted a bit from being in that soil mixture

get a seed starting mixture and after 2 weeks of age plant them into the FFOF mixture you have now

also right now stop using the karma mixture for now

your lucky you was overwatering, otherwise your problem might be even worse

if your plants continue to get bad, even after you quit karma, you have to change the soil mixture being to strong,.

  9. Thanks Stich, I am following yours and others advice to not feed Karma and not water for a bit. Guy at the grow store also told me to just take them outta the damn cups and put them in their final pots...more room for roots and such, don't have to water as often.

Soon as I find a way to bring down the pH in my water I think I will be good to go as the FFOF is a perfect pH already so I must have screwed it up by adding unadjusted water and nutes.

    Thanks again man.

    Peace

  10. ya in about another week you woulda had to take them out of the pots, but the cups wasnt the problem so thats why i didnt say anything about the cups lol
but it will be good cause then you can ge them into some lighter soil mixture for a bit......

  11. They are louvin the bigger pots and I haven't watered them at all and they are looking spectacular now! Thanks for all the advice.

    Peace
